“Finish what you were doing for now. I’ll come back later.”
“W-What do you mean come back later!”
Cassius immediately shoved Eki away, and she, without hesitation, scrambled away from his side.
‘I’m going to die of embarrassment!’
Why did the Association Head have to show up at a time like this? Did her master know he was coming?
“How many times have I told you to send a message first? My tower isn’t some bedroom you can stroll into whenever you want.”
So Cassius hadn’t known either. Eki let out a quiet sigh.
Whether it was from embarrassment or something that had been building up until now, Cassius stomped toward the window and kept barking irritably.
“Why didn’t you answer my calls? I even sent a letter. It must have said it was urgent.”
“Mmm. I was taking a nap.”
“You were napping? For how many days?”
“Cassius, cut me some slack. I’m almost five hundred years old. Once I fall asleep, I can’t wake up for four days.”
“F-Five hundred?!”
Eki jumped.
‘Well, I knew he was old but…’
Ikelid Lagus was one of the archmages who brought an end to the Dark Age. That was about three hundred eighty years ago, so she assumed he must be at least four hundred. But five hundred!
‘I should treat him with even more respect from now on.’
Thinking that, Eki politely gestured toward Ikelid, who was still sitting outside on his transport-type magic device.
“Association Head, please come inside. You can sit on that sofa there.”
“Hm? Ahahaha! Yes, yes. As Miss Eki says, I should come in.”
For someone who was supposedly five hundred years old, Ikelid hopped lightly from the magic device, still holding Venta in one hand. Venta let out a wail, but Ikelid simply swung the fairy around playfully, then sat down and crossed his legs with style.
Seeing a handsome man other than Cassius for the first time in a while, Eki was momentarily slack-jawed. Cassius immediately crumpled his brow and scolded her.
“What are you doing. Go work.”
“Huh?”
“I need to speak with Ikelid. You don’t need to be here.”
Eki rolled her eyes, then raised her left hand.
“I have to stay beside you, Master. Remember?”
Clatter. The transparent chain shimmered deliberately. Cassius clenched his teeth and sat down irritably across from Ikelid. Naturally, Eki was dragged along and ended up planting herself beside him.
‘Why is he angry again.’
Maybe because the Association Head showed up without notice. Because he witnessed something embarrassing?
‘I’m embarrassed too, you know.’
Eki pouted.
Ikelid looked between the two of them and wore an unreadable smile. He clapped lightly and let go of Venta. The little fluff fairy burst into tears and flung itself at Eki.
【 Waaah! Ekkiii! 】
“Venta, were you very scared?”
【 Th, that, that man grabbed me like this, and swung me around, and played with me! 】
He must have been examining the fairy out of curiosity. Eki let out an awkward laugh and comforted Venta.
“But Association Head, you can see the fairy too?”
“Of course. I may look like this, but I am an archmage.”
“His eye is a magical prosthetic. He can see plenty of things ordinary humans can’t.”
“Wooow.”
Venta, curious now, stopped crying halfway and peeked at Ikelid. Ikelid winked mischievously. Venta recoiled in disgust and buried its face in Eki’s shoulder. For some reason, Cassius glared at both of them with clear displeasure.
“Anyway, I didn’t know a fairy was born. Did it come from Miss Eki?”
“Uh, yes. It says it was born from my dream.”
“That chain doesn’t look like human magic. A fairy’s prank?”
“Right.”
Cassius replied bluntly with a pipe still between his lips. His expression was as cold as ever, but faint red tinted parts of his face. Probably his color still hadn’t returned after earlier.
Ikelid grinned widely at the sight.
“So, it looks like you two finally became honest with your desires, just like I said?”
“Huh? N-No, it isn’t like that!”
“What nonsense are you spouting!”
“Well. Glad I gave you the potion. So, did things progress afterward?”
“It’s not like that!”
“Really? But just now…”
“That was a mistake!”
