Chapter 69
When Luna granted permission, the servant entered with a large silver cart filled with food.
The glistening turkey, ham atop colorful fruits, and the roasted pig spiced with a generous amount of seasoning were all impressive dishes. However, they were all things Luna didn’t enjoy.
‘This is strange.’
Luna took a step back, eyeing the servant warily. The polite smile on the servant’s face twisted into something more sinister.
“You’re quick to catch on, you little brat!”
A traitor to the kingdom! The disguised intruder, who had been posing as a servant, pulled out a hidden knife and lunged at Luna. At the same time, the food cart was overturned, and another hidden assailant leapt out from beneath it.
“Don’t kill the saintess; capture her alive. She’s an important hostage to intimidate the prince.”
The two attackers rushed toward Luna with knives drawn. At the same moment, Gar, who had been hiding behind the door, sprang out to block them.
Clang! Gar’s large sword clashed with the two swords coming at him.
『Two men attacking a single woman—how cowardly of the kingdom’s people.』
Damn it, on a normal day, he would have cut these bastards down in an instant. But for some reason, his body won’t move properly.
The three swords clashed, sending sparks flying as they struggled against each other. Gar, despite being outnumbered, easily held off their attacks.
Meanwhile, Luna quickly searched for a place to hide, keeping out of the assailants’ line of sight. The hallway was chaotic, which meant there was a battle taking place outside as well.
‘This room, with Gar and Washud, is the safest place right now.’
Luna slipped under a table in the corner, knowing it was the only thing she could do at the moment.
As Gar’s battle with the assailants stretched on, the sound of shattering glass rang out.
“You idiots! Now’s not the time to be playing around with that barbarian! Finish them off and find the saintess!”
An assailant who had entered through the window shouted at the others engaged in battle with Gar.
“Damn it, I want to do that too, but this guy’s no joke. They said d***s that weaken strength were released in the aqueducts. Did you do it right?”
“Yeah. I saw it with my own eyes.”
“Is it because he’s a barbarian? The d***s don’t seem to be working!”
Clang, screech! The sound of metal clashing was deafening. Damn it, if we’re not careful, we might lose.
“Damn it, I have to find the saintess.”
“I’m sure she was here earlier. Search the room!”
“Make sure to deal with that barbarian too. This situation isn’t good.”
“We’ve sent hundreds just to kidnap that woman—what are you talking about?”
“The barbarian prince must have led his army out, but the remaining forces inside the palace are much stronger than expected, damn it!”
The assailants hurriedly searched the large room, trying to find Luna.
The long sword stabbed through the wardrobe and the bed, and finally, the blade slid under the table where Luna was hiding.
Hiiik! Luna held her breath and squeezed her eyes shut. The sword that tore through the tablecloth cut into her arm. She tried to stifle a groan as she stared at the blade. If the assailant saw the blood on the sword, it would be over.
“Is it here? Feels like something’s poking… Ack!”
At that moment, the assailant collapsed with a loud thud. Washud, who had been hiding under the bed, seized the opportunity and struck.
“You barbarian b***h!”
The assailant tried to retrieve the sword he had stabbed into the table, but the blade didn’t move. Luna was gripping the blade from the inside.
Meanwhile, Washud aimed for the assailant’s throat. Screech! The assailant collapsed after being struck in a vital spot. Gar had also taken down the remaining assailants and cleared the area.
“Are you okay?”
Washud quickly lifted the tablecloth. Luna was lying beneath the table, her hands and arms covered in blood.

Luna slowly opened her eyes. Her blurry vision gradually cleared, revealing two faces looking down at her—Washud and Gar.
“Are you awake? How do you feel?”
Washud asked as she helped Luna sit up.
“I’m fine. But you…”
Luna examined Washud quietly. The bandages wrapped around her arms and shoulders showed that her injuries were more severe.
“This much is nothing for a Valkyrie.”
Washud grinned and gently held Luna’s hands. Luna’s palms were badly injured from gripping the blade so tightly.
“Why did you do this?”
“I just wanted to help, even a little.”
Luna smiled bitterly.
“If I were as strong as you, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt.”
“You were strong enough, Luna. Even someone who has learned swordsmanship would have a hard time enduring while holding the blade.”
Washud calmly explained that it was in that fleeting moment that she had found the opening to strike a vital spot.
“I actually like the Second Prince, Luna.”
Washud’s confession came suddenly. Luna’s eyes widened as she looked up at Washud.
“There wasn’t a specific reason. When I heard he was my childhood fiancée, I started thinking of him more personally. But the Second Prince never showed any interest in me. It was just a one-sided crush.”
Then, when Kadan disappeared and returned years later, Washud admitted that she had fallen for him again.
“Actually, when the assailant stabbed the table where you were hiding, I hesitated to protect you, Luna. If I had rushed out then, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt like this.”
