Chapter 49
Epilogue
There is an island renowned for its breathtaking views, located far to the southeast of the capital. Its original name was Vapor Island, named after the nobleman who once owned the island, Baron Vapor.
However, recently, the name of Vapor Island was officially changed. The island is now known as Evelia.
The island’s new owner is the Duke of Brumfield, who is famed for being willing to sacrifice anything for his beloved wife. The Duke, who is known for his deep affection, gifted her the most beautiful island among his many properties, naming it after her childhood name.
As a result, the Duke, who had once been renowned for his dazzling looks during his wedding, soon became famous as a devoted husband. At the time, guests at the wedding spread rumors about the Duke’s striking appearance, but now he is the subject of gossip for his extraordinary affection for his wife.
The Duke of Brumfield’s immense wealth, which supposedly surpassed even the royal family’s, became a topic of interest among high society. People in fashionable circles would often comment on how fortunate the Duchess must be, sincerely envious of her happiness.
But for Evelyn, the situation hardly mattered. She lay on the luxurious bed in the mansion named after her, her expression blank with boredom.
Through the open window, the sound of crashing waves reached her ears, dangerously close. The weather, once bright and clear, had turned dark since morning. For Evelyn, accustomed to the overcast skies of Brumfield, it wasn’t uncomfortable in the least.
“My lady, would you like a quick bite to eat…?”
At that moment, Laura, who had cautiously entered the room, stopped mid-sentence.
It was because of the sight of Evelyn lying on the pure white sheets.
Her stark naked body was mottled with the traces of the previous night’s affair. The nape of her neck and the swell of her brxxsts beneath her collarbone were covered in bite marks and kisses. There were similar marks on her flat stomach and inner thighs.
Still, it was nice to see the master and mistress on good terms, so Laura approached the bed, blushing slightly.
“It’s the middle of the day, you should have lunch.”
Instead of answering, Evelyn simply turned her head and stared at Laura. Even under the weight of Evelyn’s gaze, Laura remained polite, continuing to gently persuade her.
“If there’s anything you’d like to eat, just say the word. I’ll get it ready right away.”
“No, thank you.”
“My lady.”
Laura called Evelyn’s name with a voice full of concern.
Though always slender, Evelyn had been losing weight recently to the point where her bones were becoming more prominent. Skipping meals had become routine, and even when she did eat, it was often in amounts smaller than a child’s.
The butler had arranged for a doctor’s check-up, but the diagnosis was lackluster. There was nothing particularly wrong. Naturally, this left Laura deeply worried.
“Is it because of the weather?”
Perhaps feeling sorry for his increasingly frail wife, the Duke had taken her to this island retreat.
On the first day they arrived on the island, Laura had been relieved to see Evelyn enjoying dinner after a long while. The bright sunshine, the refreshing sea breeze, and the clear, high sky seemed to soothe Evelyn’s spirits.
Though it was summer, Brumfield was rarely ever typically warm, so it seemed the change of scene had done her some good.
Then, Evelyn slowly spoke.
“It looks like it’s going to rain.”
Her green eyes shifted toward the cloudy window. Though there was quite a distance from the bed to the window, Evelyn had no trouble, as her vision was exceptional.
“Dammit, there’s been that damn fog since morning…”
Though the curse that slipped from the lady’s lips seemed unthinkable, Laura paid it no mind. Without a trace of surprise, Laura responded casually.
“Oh, did you see it this morning, my lady? I was quite startled, too. The sea fog seemed to swallow the mansion whole, and it felt so strange. I guess it’s worse being near the sea.”
The thick fog had clung to the mansion from dawn to the late morning, so dense that it was impossible to see even a step ahead. The weather wasn’t exactly cold, but it was clear that the gloomy atmosphere had affected Evelyn’s mood.
“It’s not cold, but… I suppose something warm would be nice on a day like this.”
Evelyn, eyes half-giving up, watched Laura for a moment before giving a slight nod. With a cheerful bow, Laura exited the room in quick steps.
After a moment, Evelyn finally rose, wrapping the thin blanket around her body as she walked toward the window. Light raindrops began to fall, their tiny droplets running down the glass.
When she looked out at the lush garden below, a warmth spread from behind her. Soon, familiar hands slipped under the thin blanket, wrapping around her slender waist.
The man lowered his head and whispered in Evelyn’s ear.
“What are you looking at?”
His hot breath tickled her earlobe. The tip of a hot, wet tongue traced the shape of her ear. The hands around her waist slid casually up to her brxxsts, teasing her firm nxxples.
“Stop.”
Evelyn said with a hint of annoyance, but the man’s hands didn’t stop.
“Stop it… ah!”
Calix chuckled as he rolled the pert flesh between his fingers, savoring the softness in his palm.
He couldn’t help but laugh at the adorableness of her sensitive body, even as she acted like a grumpy porcupine with its spikes sticking up all over her body.
“Eve, do you remember yesterday?”
Calix’s other hand slipped between Evelyn’s legs. The woman, nervous at the teasing touch on her brxxsts, spat out a pained moan.
“Hmph..!”
The passageway he had passed through countless times yesterday had dried traces of him. Whether it was because she was lazy, lost all motivation, or if she did it on purpose to make a point, his wife, who had slipped into my arms, did not bother to remove them.
It was so provocative.
