The desperate plea reached Calix, who had been on the verge of vanishing like smoke.

“If you help me, I’ll give you what you need.”

“Haha.”

Laughter echoed through the mist. A sound that would’ve made any ordinary person collapse in fear, but Rowena simply blinked, her green eyes glowing with eerie light.

“You’re talking nonsense.”

“Please….”

Now lucid, Rowena reached out as if to gather the fog itself, her arms wrapping around empty air.

Then, a voice tinged with amusement came from behind her.

“And what could you possibly give me?”

“Anything!”

Turning her head, Rowena took a startled step back upon seeing the vague human shape now behind her.

“Well… anything a mad princess can give, I could easily take for myself.”

Calix’s tone was devoid of desire, casual and cool. Rowena bit her lower lip.

After a beat of silence, her trembling lips parted once more.

“My life, if that’s what it takes.”

Calix’s eyes curved, faint amusement softening their edges. Looking down at the pitiful creature before him, he replied with leisurely disdain.

“Your life is of no use to me.”

Rowena took a deep breath. It seemed she truly believed her life was the most valuable thing she could offer.

“Then tell me what you need.”

“You can’t give it.”

“Just tell me, please…”

Lowering her head like a beggar, Rowena rubbed her palms together, pleading with pitiful desperation.

Calix merely raised an eyebrow and let it fall, offering no reply.

It was meaningless anyway. There was nothing he needed. This world was a dull place — one he could bend with barely a flick of his finger.

He revisited that familiar emptiness, until a passing thought flickered: perhaps it might be amusing, having even just one creature incapable of forgetting him.

Of course, a foolish princess could never achieve that.

Gone was her royal pride. Kneeling on the damp, muddy ground, Rowena spoke in a trembling voice.

“I’ll do anything… anything it takes…”

“Well then… why don’t you try creating something that can’t forget me?”

Rowena looked up at him, mouth open at his cryptic reply. She wasn’t expecting it, of course, so Calix spoke in a nonchalant tone.

“Well then, little madwoman. What is it that you wish to ask of me?”

Her green eyes, still uncertain, flicked toward the mist at the unexpected kindness in his voice. Calix added with a gentle lilt:

“Answer before I change my mind.”

“Ah!”

Elation.

Rowena’s face lit up with an uncontainable joy. Beaming, she opened her mouth and made her request with sincerity.

“Please kill all the maids and knights around me.”

The woman who had spoken so dismissively to the mist now addressed it with reverent politeness.

The figure, once distinct, began to slowly fade. The fog that had lingered only around the pond began to drift toward the secluded mansion.

The maids and knights who had served Princess Rowena were all found brutally slain. The shocking incident led to the princess being immediately relocated to Dalebury.

It was only natural that the only surviving princess would be greeted with some reluctance. Of course, no one dared to show it openly — not to one of royal blood.

As the sweltering summer passed and the air began to cool, strange rumors began to circulate. They claimed the mad princess had given birth to a child. Yet no one had ever seen the child, and the salacious tale gradually faded as just another baseless whisper.

Around the same time, a maid who had once served Princess Rowena closely was spotted loitering near a trash heap in the slums only to flee in panic when recognized.

And it was also around then that the fog returned.

Rowena, staring blankly into the air like a fool, snapped to awareness when she noticed the fog creeping into the underground library. She rose to her feet in a rush.

“Fog fairy…”

Her shoulders and neck, which had instinctively tensed in fear, slowly eased. She fixed her wavering gaze on the shimmering form and continued.

“I made what you asked for. Maybe this is…”

But the fog gave no reply. Instead, a chill touched the crown of her head. Her once-vivid green eyes trembled violently, then lost their light altogether.

Having erased the madwoman’s memory, Calix cast a bored sidelong glance at the towering shelves crammed with books reaching to the ceiling. A look of disdain flickered across his face, as if mocking the collection of meaningless knowledge treasured like relics.

And with that, the fog dispersed.

This seems a bit haphazard. Like author just randomly decided to add this coz a lot of this just doesn’t make any sense.

How did she make the kid? Magic? Who’s the father? Why did she abandon it? And why did she make that request? How did she know she would be able to fulfil his request?
