Chapter 7.1
Elena had always heard that carnivorous therianthropes were fierce and lived by the law of the jungle. Moreover, Rodelius was the empire that represented this, a frightening country where only the strong could survive. But just like the emperor, who was completely different from rumors, she was simply grateful that they accepted a rabbit therianthrope like her as the emperor’s mate and the mother of the nation.
At first, she thought they might be welcoming her only because of the tyrannical wolf emperor standing right beside her, but even with her lady-in-waiting Ramie, who attended to her almost like a fanatic, she could tell the sincerity was genuine.
Elena knew she was rumored to be the most beautiful princess on the continent, but she could only nod when Ramie told her that her portraits were worth their weight in gold and that fierce battles broke out every time to purchase just one of her portraits.
After the welcome party, Elena was becoming comfortable with the wolf emperor, whom she had been nervous about even before meeting him, as he gently explained that the wedding would take place in four days.
He was infinitely affectionate and gentle to her.
The Rodelius Emperor truly granted her every wish. He even managed to procure the snowflake cotton candy that she had enjoyed most in her homeland, a treat only available in her country, and let her taste it immediately—how he obtained it so quickly was a mystery. When she mentioned that elaborate dresses were uncomfortable to wear, he told her to choose the dresses she wanted herself, entrusting everything to Elena.
‘How is this self-centered? He’s not self-centered at all. He brought me here through threats, but…’
Elena recalled the wolf emperor who had handed her an apple while sitting at his desk.
“He said he fell in love with me at first sight and felt destiny… and sent word that if I refused his proposal, my homeland would have no future. He said that while being extremely apologetic. Both Prime Minister Rihan and Ramie said I’m the only one who has ever received an apology from His Majesty.”
Elena muttered to herself as she got up and opened the closet where her dresses were hung.
“In four days, I’ll become the Empress of this empire and His Majesty’s… wife. A rabbit becoming a wolf’s wife. Hehe. Ha. Really.”
Knock knock.
“Princess. It’s Ramie.”
“Come in.”
Every time Elena saw Ramie entering with a bright smile, she was reminded of Lulu. Lulu had been a good friend and sometimes a reliable older sister.
‘Come to think of it, they look somewhat similar. Is it their appearance? Is that why I feel comfortable? But Ramie is a wolf. And supposedly the most beautiful one in this empire. Her father, Marquis Alexia, is handsome even at his age. They say when he was young, he captured many women’s hearts.’
“You were looking at the dresses!”
“Ah, yes. The more I look at them, I think they’re too good for me…”
“What! How could you say that!”
As Ramie’s voice grew louder with excitement and her already large eyes grew even bigger, Elena tried to calm her down.
“Princess! Rather, even the dresses and undergarments you wear! We should be grateful to you!”
“Y-Yes, Ramie. Thank you for saying that.”
“It’s only natural!”
‘Ramie is really good in every way, but she… praises me too much, which makes me feel… pressured. His Majesty also seems to be wary of this lady-in-waiting who follows me so fanatically.’
This was Elena’s only concern. Ramie, who liked her too much, and the wolf emperor, who didn’t approve of such a lady-in-waiting.
“Ramie, you said you have a fiancé, right?”
“Hehe, that’s right. He’s Young Duke Jed Rodney of the Rodney Ducal family.”
“Oh, so you’ll soon become a Duchess? Congratulations.”
Elena was so busy chatting with Ramie, who just smiled shyly, that she completely failed to notice the wolf emperor who had entered the room and was standing behind her. When Ramie hurriedly bowed her head, Elena turned around.
“Y-Your Majesty?!”
“Haha. Why are you so surprised, Elena?”
“Ah, that. Umm. Y-You’re here.”
“I missed you too much.”
Lucael released pheromones. Just enough for only Ramie to feel. With the emperor’s look telling her to leave discreetly, Ramie said she would step out for a moment, leaving just the two of them in the room.
“Do you like your lady-in-waiting?”
“Of course! I’m truly grateful.”
“Haha. No need to thank me. That young lady personally asked me to allow her to be your lady-in-waiting.”
“I-I see.”
Lucael’s mouth watered every time he saw the rabbit looking shy before him.
‘I didn’t know I was such a patient man until I met my cute little rabbit.’
Chuckling, Lucael let out a long breath when he met the beautiful ruby eyes looking up at him.
“Y-Your Majesty? What’s wrong?”
“You’re so beautiful that I fall in love every time I look at you. I wish time would pass quickly so we could become husband and wife.”
“Ah…”
“Elena.”
Elena closed her eyes, unconsciously feeling the infinitely gentle touch caressing both her cheeks.
Smooch.
“!”
When she felt something soft touch and leave her lips, she opened her eyes wide to find him looking into her eyes with a faint smile just in front of her.
“Your… Majesty.”
“I’ll only give you light kisses for now. Since you still seem afraid of me.”
“I-I’m not afraid! Not anymore! Really!”
“Haha, I know. I know. I understand your feelings, so there’s no need to be so desperate.”
This emperor truly had a wonderful voice and smile. Elena felt thrilled and delighted to the point of trembling all over, knowing that the emperor’s smile, which was charming even when he was just standing still, was reserved only for her.
Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.
A pleasant trembling—Elena wondered if this was what love was, something Lulu had talked about, something she was experiencing for the first time in her life. The love that transcends species that she had mentioned.
“Ah, Elena. I have something to tell you.”
“What is it?”
“It seems the King of Harus was worried about you in this empire filled with only carnivorous therianthropes. He said he’s sending a lady-in-waiting he personally selected.”
“What?! A lady-in-waiting?”
