In that sense, Valen’s interest was extremely dangerous. Since he seemed to like her magical power, she had to cut it off before his interest developed into something more. So, wouldn’t it work if another manifestor with Tara’s qualities appeared?

The only regrettable part was that there was no such manifestor within the academy, where everyone’s skills were rather mediocre. Schnitzel did come to mind, but repaying kindness with enmity would be going too far. She couldn’t push precious Schnitzel, who had saved her life, into a pit of fire.

Therefore, the right person is Malsen. Though her skills are lacking, she fervently desires Valen.

The next day, Roseline watched Malsen closely. She seemed more sensitive than usual. She had been in that state ever since returning from seeing Valen off yesterday. Rumour had it that Valen had coldly left without even acknowledging Malsen, and that arrow of frustration was now directed at Roseline.

“You must be pleased, young lady. You even seem cheerful.”

When their eyes met, Malsen sneered as if she had been waiting. It seemed Valen’s words, spoken in passing to Roseline after ignoring Malsen completely, had deeply upset her.

“Shall I help you practice handling defensive magic?”

“……Suddenly?”

“It seems His Highness is looking for a manifestor who could become Tara.”

Malsen studied Roseline carefully, as if suspicious of the sudden offer. But there was only one answer Malsen could give. Okay.

After the day’s schedule ended, the tutoring began. The problem was that Malsen’s skills were even more hopeless than expected.

“Oh dear.”

“It’s alright, you can do better next time.”

Repeatedly failing to block the attacks, and having to manage the aftermath each time, quickly drained Roseline’s magical power. Even light attacks were a significant burden when casting outside her affinity, and handling both the attacks and the cleanup alone was clearly too much.

Finally, after a nosebleed, the first day’s session was halted. The next day, Roseline went to find Roycen, with whom she had built a one-sided internal familiarity due to bonds from her past life.

“Would I be of help?”

Fortunately, Roycen readily agreed. But as days turned into a week, Malsen’s skills showed no improvement at all. Kind words only went so far. After the same mistake was repeated a thousand times, even Roseline’s composure began to waver.

“That’s strange? I thought we agreed you’d do better next time. Did I mishear?”

“I was a little lacking in concentration.”

“A little?”

“……Hmm. It’s not that, it’s just that you’re using offensive magic too suddenly, Young Sig.”

“Should I send a formal duel notice every time I attack, then?”

“I don’t know! It’s just too hard!”

As Malsen turned away in irritation, Roycen, left alone, awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. Roseline, concluding they should stop for the day, approached him.

“Thank you so much again today. Please, if you find it troublesome or difficult, feel free to tell me anytime.”

“It’s fine. But, Young Lady.”

“Yes.”

Roseline stepped closer, as if to listen intently. Just as Roycen’s pupils wavered and his bronze skin began to flush—

“Everyone, an official notice has been posted!”

The practice room door burst open as Lady Ruav hurriedly entered. Schnitzel, who had been leaning against the wall and glaring sharply at Roycen, frowned fiercely, seeming startled. Roseline’s expression, filled with bad memories of official notices, also gradually twisted. A sense of foreboding washed over her.

“It seems we’re all going to the Grand Duchy’s territory. Ah, not you, Young Sig. Only those in the healing affinity are being sent for combat support training, or something? How wonderful, Young Lady.”

“No!”

“No!”

Roseline and Malsen shouted in unison. Ruav, who had assumed Malsen would be pleased, rolled her eyes as if checking the mood, while Schnitzel grumbled that her eardrums were about to burst. Roycen, standing right in front of Roseline, also looked quite surprised.
I’m sorry. As Roseline muttered with a dazed expression, Malsen approached her with a terrifying intensity.

“Young Lady, you won’t go, will you? You mustn’t go, absolutely not!”

As if I even want to go.

He truly was an incredible man. I thought he might, at best, bribe a professor, but I never expected him to strike from behind like this. It’s baffling why he’s escalating things to this extent, especially without any memory. Is my ability that remarkable? Or is he just recklessly climbing higher?

“But… I think everyone has to go, probably. All except those who are married or formally betrothed…”

Ruav, sensing the increasingly frosty atmosphere, let her words trail off. The intensity radiating from Roseline and Malsen was that fierce. For a moment, they glared at the poor Ruav with scorching eyes. Then, as if finding a way out, Malsen clapped her hands and tightly grabbed Roseline’s.

“Young Lady, you said you have a lover, didn’t you? Hurry and get engaged right away.”

No, there’s no such thing.

Roseline bitterly swallowed her unspoken words and shook her head.
