Chapter 66
Isn’t that a little too fainthearted?
Knowing Felix would only get prickly if he said that out loud, Abel kept his mouth shut.
It turned out to be the right choice.
Before long, Felix’s expression relaxed.
“I’ll be going now.”
“Were you training this whole time?”
“Yes.”
After looking over Felix’s hands, Abel cautiously asked:
“Can I heal them?”
He knew Felix wasn’t particularly fond of his holy power, but he still wanted to.
Especially since Felix hadn’t accepted his gift.
Felix’s eyes widened in surprise. After hesitating for a moment, he gave a small nod.
In response, Abel drew out his power as gently as he could.
Gathering holy power at the tips of his index and middle fingers, Abel lightly traced over Felix’s wounds.
As the soft white light brushing his fingertips swept across Felix’s skin, every visible cut disappeared as though they had never existed.
After healing all the wounds he could see, Abel grew a little greedy and gently took both of Felix’s hands in his own.
The hands he was holding trembled ever so slightly, but Felix still didn’t push Abel away.
As Abel infused them with holy power, Felix’s fingernails gradually began to straighten. Nails that had already grown in deformed would have to be removed and healed from scratch, but the ones that had only recently been damaged could still be restored.
“There.”
Even that much made his hands look much cleaner and more attractive.
Abel still didn’t really understand why Felix had gotten so angry when they had talked about his hands before, but if he had simply hated how ugly they looked, then this should solve the problem.
“So? Your hands are a little prettier now, aren’t they?”
Before Felix could pull away, Abel released his hands first and asked. Felix looked at him with a slightly fierce gaze before speaking.
“What exactly do you mean by that?”
“You got angry that time, remember? I thought maybe you hated how ugly your hands were. Should I assign someone to take care of them? But why were you really so angry?”
At Abel’s answer, the sharpness in Felix’s eyes softened slightly.
“…Forget it. I just thought you were making fun of me.”
Making fun of him? Why?
Abel stared at Felix with a look that plainly said he had no idea what he was talking about.
Felix looked as though he was about to bite his lip, then relaxed his jaw and muttered quietly:
“Right. This is the kind of person you are.”
What on earth is that supposed to mean? Abel simply watched as Felix roughly raked a hand through his hair.
How long they remained standing there in silence, neither of them speaking, he couldn’t tell.
At last, Felix straightened his posture.
“I’ll be going now.”
Right. It was his day off, after all.
“Hmm.”
Thanks to the fact that Felix had been startled, Abel had gotten to see him after all, but now that he was leaving already, he couldn’t help feeling a little disappointed.
Was that why?
That’s why he ended up asking this question.
“So you’re not going to kiss me today?”
“…”
Now that his anger had subsided, he probably wouldn’t anymore, right? To begin with, the kisses had been Felix’s way of venting his frustration at Abel.
Without expecting much, Abel looked at Felix.
Then his hand was caught.
And gentle lips came to rest on the ring finger where the fingernail had been pulled out.
Oh.
“You were right.”
After holding the kiss for a moment longer before pulling away, Felix spoke without meeting Abel’s eyes.
“I was projecting my father onto you.”
The warm breath brushing against the finger his lips had touched made it tingle.
“…But now I know. You and my father aren’t the same person.”
Slowly raising his head, Felix looked at Abel as though he were confronting something utterly unfamiliar for the first time in his life.
But the sharp, thorny emotions that had once filled his gaze were no longer there.
“That doesn’t mean you’re normal, though.”
Letting out something between a scoff and a breath of incredulous laughter, Felix released Abel’s hand and walked out of the room.
Left alone, Abel blinked as he lightly tapped the ring finger that still tingled from Felix’s kiss.
