Chapter 127
“A guy drowning in regret but clinging to nothing but his pride, how embarrassing. As a fellow man, I feel secondhand shame!”
Just as I was ready to grind my teeth into dust, someone shouted triumphantly.
“You dumped her, ran off with another woman, and now you’re acting all clingy? What’s the regret for, huh? Pay close attention, this is what pure, devoted love looks like from a man who’s been waiting to break up with you.”
I turned around, face going pale.
Of all people, Number 30, that bruised potato of a man, had barged into the scene.
Why is it always this guy?
Didn’t die, didn’t leave, just came in to ruin my life on cue.
Enoch looked down at Number 30 with disdain, then turned to me and snickered.
“Oh, so that’s your taste now? Seems like you’ve lowered your standards quite a bit.”
Seeing that look of contempt in his eyes made my blood boil.
Sure, looks aren’t everything, but I’ve always preferred partners who are both good looking and broad-minded.
And 30? To me, he was the kind of man I’d be ashamed to be seen with in public.
I stared at him with a face drained of color.
“Please. Just go away.”
Number 30’s expression crumpled with disappointment at my near plea.
“Love is healed by love, you know. I came in looking cool to protect your pride, and this is the thanks I get…?”
Wouldn’t it be more helpful if you just disappeared and stayed out of my sight?
Why do you always show up at random and spike my blood pressure?
Enoch crossed his arms, raised his chin, and looked down on Number 30.
“You’ve been here longer than I have. Did you forget how the hierarchy works in this place?”
Number 30 blinked, finally noticing the number and color of Enoch’s prison uniform.
The moment he saw the water sphere forming in Enoch’s palm, he trembled and began making ridiculous excuses.
“Number 6, sir! This was all 49’s idea! She asked me to pose as her new lover to make you jealous. I didn’t want to do it, I swear…”
You absolute lunatic.
The guy couldn’t open his mouth without lying.
Enoch turned to me, that smug grin carved into his face.
“Trying to make me jealous? Hah. Resorting to such childish tactics now?”
As I watched his mouth curl even higher, the world felt like it was crumbling around me.
I couldn’t believe that it was me, not Enoch, who was the one feeling murderous.
“Guh!”
In the end, the extreme stress caused me to cough up blood.
This was beyond humiliation and disgrace.
Then, from behind me, someone called my number, as I wallowed in humiliation.
“Number 49. No signs of hemoptysis lately, but…”
It was Damian. His cool fingers pressed against my forehead like he was checking for a fever.
I tilted my head slightly, catching the way Enoch looked at Damian.
Very different from how he’d looked at Number 30.
His expression turned stone cold, like he was sizing up a real threat.
“Ah.”
They say when people insult others, they usually attack the very thing that would hurt them the most.
In other words, when tormenting others, they use their own weaknesses or feelings of inferiority.
Then…
I turned on my aesthetic radar and observed Damian closely.
Tall with a big, generous heart. Silver glasses hiding his jaded eyes, sharply defined features, cold blue eyes like a winter lake.
An effortlessly elegant man with ash-brown hair, tired, with intellectual charm
The uniform that many women fantasize about was the icing on the cake.
I touched my forehead and shut my eyes.
“Ooh… I feel dizzy.”
