Chapter 129
“All cleaned up, right?”
Johann, leaning back with a lazy stance, asked in a displeased tone.
Please, leave Number 30 out of this.
Why does he keep inserting himself into the ex-fiancé lineup without a shred of shame?
I pointed squarely at Enoch and said,
“Of course. He had an affair with my cousin.”
Johann’s green eyes widened slightly, then narrowed to a sharp sliver as he stared at Enoch.
“Then why are they all gathered in one place? Is this some kind of roll call for ex-fiancés?”
It just… sort of ended up that way.
Why is he even getting upset about this?
What is he, my boyfriend or something?
“I’m not hung up on the past, Johann. The present is what matters.”
With a calm voice, Enrique appeared and slipped a potato into my hand.
It was so cold it stung to the touch. The thing was frozen solid.
How am I supposed to eat this?
One bite and I’d probably break my teeth.
Enrique’s golden eyes curved like a waning moon.
“Once you’re dead, everything, including the past, can be erased.”
He said something so chilling with the kindest smile.
With a blank expression, Johann’s gaze swept over Enoch, and Enoch met his gaze unflinchingly.
The two stared each other down like predators circling the same prey.
The tension between men is something else.
When Johann’s upper lip lifted, flashing a glimpse of his fang-like canine tooth, Enoch must have sensed the hierarchy; he was the first to break eye contact.
“Go eat already. I heard they’re serving corn today.”
Having won the staring contest, Johann brushed past me with an indifferent tone.
Enrique followed behind, giving me a light wave.
“Wrap things up nicely.”
Number 30 had long since bolted, and Damian had already slipped away with a face full of boredom.
Enoch muttered to himself as he watched the two men disappear down the corridor.
“Number 1, Number 2?”
So when they said “wrap things up,” did they actually mean cleaning up a person’s life?
He added in a soft voice…
“You can use me, as long as the reward’s clear.”
“What kind of reward do you want?”
“Something that feels good.”
He lifted our clasped hands in front of my eyes and smiled brightly.
Through our joined hands, I could feel a faint current of purification flowing into him.
Well, just holding hands and stroking someone a little, that much, I could manage.
I accepted it willingly.
“Alright.”
In the distance, Johann appeared behind Enrique’s shoulder, stretching lazily as he approached.
“Why’re you just standing there?”
His gaze, slowly drawing near, landed on the hands Enrique and I had clasped together.
That absinthe-colored gaze narrowed slightly, then immediately, he grabbed my other hand and laced our fingers tightly.
“Good thing you’ve got two hands.”
Now held on both sides, I looked between Johann and Enrique, startled.
I gave him a look demanding an explanation, and seeing this, one corner of Johann’s mouth twisted upward.
“I’m not sure what we’ll do when holding hands isn’t enough anymore.”
His low voice scraped down my spine.
Holding hands was considered a reward?
I didn’t know what kind of “pleasant feeling” they were experiencing through physical contact with me, so I couldn’t judge easily.
Across from him, Enrique’s face had already gone cold.
“You’re too greedy, Johann.”
