  3. Chapter 19

After securing Johann and Enrique’s favor and friendship, I planned to subtly join their escape.

Upholding the original story is both a transmigrator’s conscience and mission.

I needed to assist them in staying true to the plot for their escape.

As a person who only vaguely remembers certain parts, I precisely knew they planned to escape the day after sharing their seventh moment of enlightenment with Justina.

I could help by casually leaking information about Justina.

Relying solely on my memory of the original work wasn’t enough; I had to employ strategies to gather practical information as well.

First and foremost, I decided I needed to somehow survive until the designated day.

Drenched and rising abruptly, the prisoners recoiled as if they had seen a zombie.

I looked back at them with an expressionless face.

“I’ll remember your faces.”

They held their sides, laughing derisively.

“What will you do, kill us? Does such a frail noblewoman claim to have such courage?”

I heard that during special trainings like “Survival Training” and “Death’s Winner Game,” abilities could be limitedly unlocked.

Of course, with the explosive device and remote magic embedded in my necklace, escaping would be challenging…

Fidgeting with the ability control necklace, I smiled brightly.

Although I couldn’t properly wield any special abilities, my talent for manipulating others was top-notch.

“After all, it’s a life sentence. Unlike before, I’ve got nothing to lose now.”

Indeed, a person desperate enough, and with nothing to lose is far more terrifying.

The prisoners watched me chuckle all by myself, left with a look of discomfort.

I’ll use any means necessary to survive, escape, and achieve my vengeance.

As I was resolutely making this vow, Guard Damian approached and gestured for me to follow.

“Number 49, come with me.”

“Why?”

“Is this a time for questions?”

Watching closely, I plotted my ascension from these depths.

With clenched teeth, I followed Damian to the interrogation chamber below.

Seated in the dimly lit room, he inquired,

“Any clue where the fugitives might have headed?”

“Fugitives?”

“Your blood relatives. The last sighting was at Chester Harbor.”

Those backstabbers had managed a clean getaway.

Resting on the cold metal chair, memories flooded back.

When the Empire crumbled, Uncle Claude and I devised an escape plan.

Uncle Claude, once an admiral in the navy, had secured three ships. We agreed to reunite on my vessel.

I never saw him that day. What happened to him?

“Before that, I’d like news on Duke Claude Farsene. Is he alive?”

Damian glanced subtly at his watch, then replied, “Unknown.”

“Does that mean he escaped?”

“That, too, is unknown.”

I shrugged, brow furrowed in frustration.

“You’re being uncooperative? I’m sure you’ll regret it.”

“I wish I could tell you, but I don’t have any movement or record. But why are you suddenly interrogating me?”

This is…. wow, I don’t even know.

“And if the fugitives are caught?”

“They’ll be detained, like everyone else.”

I covered my mouth and feigned sorrow.

“To think my shameless family would betray me and flee… But they’re still my family, how can I hate them so easily?”

It was a ploy to solicit a reward, but Damian simply adjusted his glasses and nodded.

“Understood.”

I hate men who give up easily.

Perhaps I could divulge something for the right offer. Though I’d be lying, of course.

“This is for prisoners participating in the survey.”

As he wrapped up, handing me something.

I eagerly took it, hoping for a promising lead.

“It would be more convenient to tie your hair back while laboring.”

It was just a rubber hair tie.

Sigh… Was I the only one hoping for more?

I weakly staggered to my feet and turned.

My lips tightened as I left the interrogation room.

Had they threatened me with summary execution, I would have gladly let them know.

I might have even volunteered as a consultant for their investigative team.

But being sent here? What if they ended up in this facility, it’d be a nuisance?

They’d likely be placed in the 10s at least.

I’ll put the bastards in here only after I’ve gotten my hands on the strong ones.

Johann, watching from afar with a scowl, caught my eye. Yes, that bastard would surely make them suffer.

“Damn, what’s with the homeless stench?”
