Chapter 23
That meant the Emperor had met with the Devil who descended on Conrad Castle in the West. Furthermore, the descent of the Devil itself might have originated from the Emperor’s wish. Didn’t he say so with his own mouth? That he ‘demanded’ the Devil make Dieter Conrad pay the price for the sins connected by blood.
She didn’t know what on earth had happened to make him demand even the child pay for the sins…….
‘I don’t know what he meant by saying I would screw him.’
She had heard of people preserving their lives by mixing bodies with a Devil, but hearing a curse that she would screw his own nephew was a first. It was so out of the blue that she even had an ominous premonition that such a thing might really happen.
‘Did he express the idea that we would die and share the same grave in that way?’
Even while she squeezed Viscount Odeur to dissolve honey in the bathtub for her bath, the words the Emperor spoke did not leave Elena’s mind. She even had a strange dream that night.
In the dream, a young man with blond hair and a red tower appeared. The man looked up at the tower endlessly but, for some reason, did not think to enter. And only right before waking from the dream could Elena realize the man’s identity.
He was the Emperor, Lowell Bavaria.
“Bella. Would you happen to know if there is a red tower in the Imperial Palace?”
“A red tower? I’ll check with Sir Zenobio.”
As a result of calling Bella to check as soon as she woke from the dream, no such thing as a red tower existed in the Imperial Palace of the capital. Although the unsettling feeling didn’t dissipate even after hearing that, Elena had to put thoughts of the dream and the Emperor aside for a moment.
It was because, a week after leaving the Viscount Odeur’s territory, they had finally arrived at the Conrad territory in the West.
“Oh my god. It looks like everyone in the West has flocked here. It wasn’t to this extent in Wellington.”
Bella, checking outside through the crack in the carriage window, made a fed-up face. Even without checking with her eyes, she could tell how many people had gathered. The carriage was shaking from the shouts coming from outside.
“I heard the number of people trapped in Conrad Castle is four hundred. Are they all territory residents?”
“Yes. They said they called as many as possible because they were doing castle repair work at that time, of all times.”
If it was four hundred people in this small and poor territory, practically everyone had lost at least one family member. So that must be why they were screaming her name so desperately with one voice.
“O Saintess, please save the West!”
“Saintess! My wife is trapped in the castle. The Devil is definitely holding my wife. Please help!”
“Please find my son. This stupid mother lived forgetting her only child. Please, I will even give my life, so please find my child……!”
Everyone shouted the names of their parents until their throats burst, and threw pouches containing their entire fortunes with their children’s names written on them toward the carriage. Elena clicked her tongue while looking at the rattling carriage ceiling.
‘I wanted to rest for at least a month before going to Conrad Castle.’
Looking at the people’s reactions, it seemed she would be forcibly dragged to Conrad Castle if she delayed even a little. Elena opened the window slightly and waved her hand to the people. Bella freaked out saying it was dangerous, but wouldn’t doing at least this make the people feel their effort in coming out and screaming was worth it? She declined a situation where that many people became angry at her and threw stones.
“O God! May Your Saintess save us!”
Elena waved her hand until her arm hurt by the time the carriage entered the temple. She didn’t know if it was effective, but anyway, the carriage she was riding arrived safely at the temple.
