“Someone dear to me reads it every summer without fail. So I thought I might give it a try myself.”

She nearly laughed out loud. That book was Luirene’s essential summer read. She’d once mentioned it to him in passing, and he’d remembered—hadn’t forgotten—and was bringing it up now.

“I’ll go fetch it right away.”

“Hurry. My patience isn’t that long.”

Having given the instruction, he disappeared into his bedroom first. Before leaving the rear garden, Luirene picked a few bright hydrangea blooms. Back in her room, she trimmed the stems simply, then headed up to the second floor with the book he’d mentioned.

She knocked quietly, and the door opened from within. A forgotten thrill ignited into tension, stiffening her shoulders. Luirene checked for any sign of others, then slipped inside.

“Welcome.”

“What if someone saw?”

“Well… shall I kidnap them on the sly and cut out their tongues?”

“I’m not joking.”

“Neither am I.”

He smiled with a face utterly devoid of seriousness and swept back Luirene’s hair.

“The main building is completely empty tonight. Only the Nanny remains on duty, but she’ll be stuck in the annex for the next two hours without reprieve.”

“Why?”

“I told her to check every item on the list of valuables stored in the annex and record them in writing. Labor that wears out the body and eats up time with no meaning whatsoever.”

“…I’m feeling sorry for the Nanny for the first time ever.”

“Consider it punishment for tattling on you as she pleased four years ago.”

“You’ve been holding onto that all this time?”

“‘Holding onto it’? It won’t be forgotten until I’m in my grave.”

While she welcomed the sense of responsibility he showed toward her, Luirene wasn’t keen on it souring into guilt. She smiled a little ruefully, gently removed his hand, and approached the table where the vase stood.

When she replaced the old flowers with the hydrangeas, the cool freshness she’d felt in the rear garden revived itself in this corner of the room.

“Did you bring those as a gift?”

“Yes. They seem to be at their loveliest right now.”

“Lovely.”

The lips that said the word descended onto Luirene’s cheek. That was how the young master was—he knew how to express affection without a shred of hesitation. Trying to hide her embarrassment, Luirene simply rubbed at her cheek when a slightly sulky voice reached her.

“That’s all the reaction I get?”

“Pardon?”

“You still haven’t grasped where you are, have you?”

“This is… your bedroom, young master.”

“Yes. My bedroom.”

He sat Luirene down on the bed. She’d been pushed back so suddenly that her posture crumpled. He braced his arms on either side of her and, as if savoring this moment thoroughly, studied her slowly from inches away.

“And right now, you’re on my bed.”

“…Aren’t you going to read the book?”

“Later. You knew it was a pretext.”

Wearing a devilish grin, he pressed her down and pushed up the thin chemise. Flustered by the unmistakable sensation of her legs spreading apart, Luirene blurted out anything she could.

“B-But still. But, really, that book is very good.”

“…You incorrigible bookworm. Is that what matters right now?”

“I thought this might be a good chance to—”

“I’ll read it later and even write you a book report. For now, focus on this.”

Before she could be fully exposed, his lustrous silver hair fell to cover her. The sensation of soft, warm lips touching her most intimate place sent a chill racing through her.

Luirene flinched, her shoulders jerking as she clutched at his hair. Hitaon rubbed his lips against her inner thighs as if marking them with affection, then licked the parted cleft with his tongue.

“It’s… dirty.”

“Am I?”

“No. That place, with your tongue, hah—”

Revulsion was unavoidable, at first. The spot that grew so sensitive even the graze of fingers made the back of her neck prickle—and now he was touching it with his lips, and not just that, driving his tongue into it as well. Luirene squirmed, feeling her lungs flush hot in no time.

“It’s not dirty at all.”

“Hn—”

“If it were, I doubt I’d be thinking of pushing my tongue inside.”

That must have been a warning. The tongue that had patiently licked all around to ease the tension didn’t miss the moment the crimson flesh peeked through the cleft, and crawled in with a slow, kneading pressure.

The strange sensation of a soft mass of flesh prying her open from below tore a moan from her throat. Luirene hastily clamped a hand over her mouth.

Hitaon didn’t stop—like a man who’d waited solely for this day. He pulled her shrinking legs back apart and pressed his face in even closer. The angle of his tongue sank deeper still.

“Hnk… ah—”

Sharp jolts of pleasure began to leap up through her. That very thrill—the one that now frightened her because she’d learned its taste all too well.
