Mavolo stopped his musings at the voice calling him and raised his head. A young sorcerer with an anxious face was looking at him.

“Do not call me by that name here. You must call me Lord ‘Mavolo.’”

“What use is that when the King already knows that you and we are of the same group? ……That damn King has captured and imprisoned our youngest.”

King Aidan was highly suspicious. To such an extent that he did not even trust Malachy O’Doherty, the advisor he relied on most.

Thus, organizing the personnel for the Prince took quite a lot of toil and effort. The King acted as if he were yielding to Mavolo’s plan only after taking the youngest sorcerer hostage and locking him in a dungeon.

The very few individuals the King trusted—people such as the Chief Magistrate and the Head Maid—selected and picked the personnel for the journey. They chose outsiders if possible, or those in insignificant and humble circumstances, and among them, those who looked stupid and lacked motivation.

For the successful recovery of the corpse in question, King Aidan finally handpicked the attendant Craig to be included. He was not trustworthy, but it couldn’t be helped. There was no one else who was closest to the Prince yet disloyal.

“For the sake of the grand cause, a brief sacrifice cannot be helped.”

Mavolo spoke with a nonchalant face while smoking a rolled cigarette. Two young sorcerers showed expressions of protest upon hearing his answer, but there was no need to pay them any mind. What could those young things possibly do now?

“The King here is even more out of his mind than expected. Not only is he drunk day in and day out, but his temper is becoming so vicious that he even lays hands on those who attend to him.”

Mavolo ignored the young sorcerer’s plea and finished smoking his cigarette.

“Soon, word will come from the one we planted.”

He simply said that. On the day of departure, they had succeeded in swapping one of the personnel for a mercenary they had hired. Due to the hastily arranged schedule and the meager number of people, everything was more lax than expected, so there was not even a need to use magic.

As soon as the King saw off the Prince’s party, his face looked as if a ten-year-old congestion had been cleared, and he went straight to his bedchamber. Then, he slept all day as if catching up on postponed deep sleep.

Mavolo reflected on that once more and sneered.

“Who was the one maintaining contact with the mercenary?”

“It is Angie. However……”

The sorcerer Angie was not in this room. Mavolo realized that fact and arched an eyebrow.

“I will go find her. She has been depressed ever since she came here.”

Mavolo nodded. Three sorcerers rose all at once and left the room.

The remaining sorcerer spoke as he handed an extra cigarette to Mavolo.

“I still think it would have been better to just storm into the Prince’s room recklessly.”

“How could we know how things would turn out? Did you not say with your own mouth that the King is more out of his mind than expected? What if he had been incensed enough to stab his own brother to death? We must extract it from a living body as much as possible, without having to risk the danger of decay.”

“Is that truly the only reason? Is it not because of Lord Fergus’s fastidiousness?”

At his disciple’s bold retort, Mavolo narrowed his eyes.

“Do not dare to utter the Great King’s honorable name so carelessly.”

At Mavolo’s chilling gaze, the disciple shut his mouth with a reluctant face.

However, the silence did not last long. The disciple spoke as if muttering while looking at the floor.

“Why on earth must we come all the way here and suffer like this? If only that girl hadn’t run away……”

“What is the use of blaming what has already happened now?”

Mavolo utterly loathed unproductive actions.

He lightly rebuked his disciple and lit the new cigarette.

Prince Declan was lying down on the grass. It was truly a clear autumn sky. The sky was exceptionally blue, and not a single cloud was in sight.

The gently blowing breeze was appropriately cool. It was not excessively cold or anything of the sort.

Drowsiness began to wash over him softly. After going through that ordeal, Prince Declan had gained quite a bit of composure in his mindset. Perhaps he had grown one step further internally by crossing the threshold of death once and returning.

Prince Declan felt proud of himself, yet also felt pity for himself. The pride, confidence, and self-pity that had been with him for a long time were all clashing together in his mind.

For now, let’s enjoy this freedom.

Everything is new and brilliant. The texture of the grass touching his palm, the wind tickling his forehead, and this mysterious thing chewing on his hair…….

“Ack!”

Prince Declan screamed and sprang up.

The donkey, which had been chewing on his fine hair, nonchalantly moved to another spot and began grazing on the grass.
