The overwhelming power from others’ contact felt revolting despite knowing it was the source of her survival.
There were only a few tolerable guidings—one was from Linton. Linton was the only Gold-level guide whose guiding Adrien could endure.
Even now, he was rushing from the distant southern region after her urgent summons. But no matter how fast, he could only arrive tomorrow.
‘…I think I’m reaching the brink of a berserk episode.’
To make matters worse, her guiding medicine was all used up. But Adrien couldn’t even leave the room. All her senses assaulted her brain as if about to tear it apart, so going outside was unthinkable.
She feared losing all self-control if she left.
She had long ago ordered some captain passing by to bring either a guide or guiding medicine. But no news came.
‘I can’t possibly go berserk here.’
Fainting might allow her to hold out longer. She took out a knife with that in mind.
If she stabbed herself somewhere painful, she wouldn’t be able to stay standing…
Knock knock.
“Um… Is Captain Brillante here?”
The voice instantly eased her tension.
Though thick walls and doors concealed the visitor’s identity, Adrien somehow knew.
‘It’s a guide.’
With the intuition vividly clear before her eyes, Adrien hurriedly put the knife away.
“Come in.”
The door opened.
Adrien braced herself for the noise that would surely follow and tightly covered her ears in pain.
‘…What’s this?’
Why was it tolerable?
She looked up with puzzled eyes.
With the sound of the door closing, a man in military uniform looked around the unfamiliar darkness.
“Why are the lights off…”
“…”
“Are you feeling unwell?”
His slightly young tone faded as seriousness took over. A low, pleasant voice filled the space between them.
“You.”
At Adrien’s word, the man stopped approaching.
“What’s your level?”
“…Silver.”
Silver? Impossible.
“If you try a bit harder, you’ll reach Gold.”
No, that didn’t explain it.
“Come closer.”
“Yes.”
The man obediently came to the desk where Adrien sat. She frowned slightly and grabbed his wrist.
“C-Captain!”
Ha, this is crazy. Adrien burst out laughing.
As soon as she grasped his wrist, the hypersensitive sensations calmed as if by magic.
Guides unconsciously radiate guiding energy. This man was no different. The calming sensation just when the door opened proved it.
Just that alone allowed Adrien to sigh in relief. But the contact was even more. She shivered at the unfamiliar sensation.
‘What on earth is this…’
Soft, tingling energy flowed from the wrist she held. It seemed to both relax and heat her entire body.
It was the pleasure from guiding.
Adrien instinctively took a step forward. The tall man went willingly, without resistance.
When Adrien opened the door, a bed that filled the small room came into view. The meaning was clear.
The man looked at Adrien in surprise.
“What’s your name and rank?”
“I’m Ensign Samuel Norah.”
His eyes widened like a startled rabbit, but his answer was good.
‘Norah.’
A familiar name. Moreover, somehow his first name sounded similar to someone’s.
Norah was a fairly common surname in the empire. Yet, for Adrien, it was a name that carried weight.
Thinking of someone, Adrien chuckled softly. The coincidence was rather striking.
“I…”
“I know. I know who you are.”
“It really is you?”
He must be the guide sent by some lieutenant she didn’t remember.
Whoever he was, she had to find him and repay him. If it had taken time to find such a well-matched guide, she was willing to endure the terrible pain.
‘…Endure what?’
Adrien was surprised by how much she had started to think like an esper, but she kept it to herself and sat Samuel on the bed. He was very obedient.
Dim light filtered through a small window. Only then did Adrien properly examine Samuel.
His dark hair and handsome face. Though youthful, his gaze was strangely firm, and his plump lips somehow sensual.
“You know what I want, right?”
“…Yes.”
“Unfortunately, I’m not well. If you’d come a bit later, I might have entered a berserk stage.”
Adrien clung to her last patience and explained the necessary details.
Samuel’s mouth slightly opened in surprise.
“So keep in mind that we could go to the final stage.”
