Curious what happens next? Read more here

“What? You’re not coming with us, Commander?”

“…I’m not.”

“Why not? You’re the one who wanted Ensign Samuel to wake up more than anyone.”

“I’ve seen that he’s awake. That’s enough.”

“What’s going on? Don’t tell me he lost his memory. Does he not recognize you? No—wait, you said it earlier, didn’t you? That his guiding is overflowing.”

“……”

“Is that really true?”

Something about Adrien’s subtle expression tipped Alex off.

His pace quickened, and before long he could feel the radiation-like guiding energy spilling freely into the hallway. It was like water overflowing from a bathtub, flooding the bathroom and then pouring out into the next room.

Alex’s heart began to race.

If Samuel’s guiding truly had grown stronger, then he was witnessing a once-in-a-century discovery.

‘Gold level. No doubt about it.’

The sheer volume alone was enough to be certain. A guide advancing from Silver to Gold, Samuel Norah would become one of the most famous guides of this era.

After completing the final checks, Alex looked through the glass at Samuel.

“Ensign Samuel, if you’re ready, release your guiding.”

Samuel closed his eyes. Moments later, brilliant white light began spreading outward from him, illuminating the special stones embedded in the floor.

As the glow expanded, Alex’s eyes widened.

Each stone was etched with lines and numbers marking levels. Alex’s mouth fell open as he frantically glanced between the testing chamber and the reference map used to determine rank.

“Th-this is…”

The light had already surpassed the Gold-level threshold with ease. And yet Samuel, eyes still closed, looked perfectly calm.

‘How far is he planning to go?’

Just as Alex swallowed dryly, Samuel’s guiding flooded the very last stone with white light.

A perfect Gold level.

Alex stared, dumbfounded.

Crash! Crash! Crash! At the same time, all the special stones shattered at once.

Startled by the noise, Samuel snapped his eyes open and instinctively raised his arms to shield his head. But the stones that had seemed ready to bury him were gone, reduced to nothing but fine powder.

Confused, Samuel looked at Alex through the glass.

“…Ha.”

After staring at him in silence for several seconds, Alex let out a hollow laugh and opened the chamber door.

“Ensign. Come out.”

“Did I do something wrong? Why did the stones suddenly—”

“Do you really have no idea what you just did?”

Samuel stepped out, blinking blankly. At his innocent expression, Alex chuckled again.

“I’ve only seen a test room end up like this twice. One was today. Want to know when the other time was?”

“When was it?”

“Adrien Brillante.”

“……”

“The day our Commander, the so-called Light of Justice, took her own level test.”

Alex scribbled something onto the documents in his hand, then smirked and shoved the entire folder against Samuel’s chest.

“Congratulations, Ensign Samuel. You’re no longer a Silver-level guide. You’re the Empire’s first ever unmeasurable guide.”

“Th-that doesn’t—what does that even mean…?”

Still stunned, Samuel looked down at the papers clutched to his chest.

Guide Ensign Samuel Norah – Level Reassessment Results
Measured Level: Unmeasurable
Test Guarantor: Alexander Macgis

Every member of the unit was staring at the same newspaper. No one had even bothered to open it, the headline alone dominated the entire front page.

THE WORLD’S FIRST UNMEASURABLE GUIDE!
WHO IS Ensign Samuel NORAH?

Even seeing it with their own eyes, they could hardly believe it. The rookie they all knew—the one who had been hovering between life and death just a week ago—had become the world’s first unmeasurable guide.

The paper featured a photo from Samuel Norah’s graduation, followed by a full-blown exposé of his personal history. Former mountain unit, striking looks—every trivial detail was laid bare.

“This, this is real? Wow…”

Captain Bailey Rossem shook his head in disbelief before snapping the paper shut. His expression was dazed, and he wasn’t the only one.

“It has to be because of that illegal enhancer, right? It worked not just on espers, but on guides too?”

“Ensign Samuel must have lived a virtuous life, maybe the gods helped him.”

“He got injected with an illegal enhancer and collapsed, then woke up unmeasurable! Do we really need to bring gods into this?”

Michelle shot Bailey an exasperated look.

“Don’t you think there’s a reason the article never explains why Ensign Samuel was unconscious? They’re trying to stop guides from thinking they can get the same results by messing with illegal d***s.”

“Hey, Lieutenant Michelle! I’m not even a guide, why would I do something like that?”

“Maybe not you, Captain. But there are plenty of people who would.”

Michelle swept the room with a sharp gaze. Several people quickly looked away, clearly feeling called out.
