Chapter 71

If she pushed her tongue deep into his mouth, sucking on his tongue’s root, the surge of guiding energy would be immediate and overwhelming.
From that moment, she knew, her mind would go completely white with pleasure—and, unable to stop herself, she’d drag Samuel into the small bedroom off her office, not even bothering to lock the door behind them.
Even just imagining it made her feel a hot ache low in her belly.
“Ensign, I don’t believe you.”
But Adrien tuned her features into a cold, emotionless mask.
“Commander…”
“Boys like you are all the same. Nothing to your name, just a pretty face and some guiding ability, thinking that’s enough to throw yourself at me.”
“….”
“You’re just trying to use me to get close to my family, right? Seduction like this—please. It’s so cliché it’s boring.”
Samuel’s green eyes, always so determined and deep, now wavered. He was clearly hurt.
Adrien knew well how the most common prejudices could become the sharpest knives. She’d seen enough spiteful people to know. Now she was using their favorite weapon and stabbing it straight into Samuel’s heart.
She waited, wanting him to cry or run from her. Anything to escape her cruelty.
“It doesn’t matter if you think that. But at the very least—my body and my guiding aren’t boring to you, are they?”
“…What?”
“Please, at least take that, Commander.”
It wasn’t the kind of comeback she wanted. But Adrien was frozen in place.
Samuel began unbuttoning his shirt. The sound was soft, but in the quiet hallway it rang sharply in Adrien’s hypersensitive Esper ears.
To her, nothing could have been clearer or more provocative.
With wounded eyes, he kept looking at her as he exposed himself, word by word, button by button—like a little devil who’d crawled out of hell.
A little devil that was not going to break her spirit and send her to ruin, but to offer her pleasure.
When he undid the fourth button and his chest was fully bared, Adrien found herself swallowing hard.
“Ensign Samuel Norah, what the hell do you think you’re doing?”
A new voice—Linton—appeared behind her, grabbing Samuel’s wrist.
Adrien jumped. She’d never failed to notice someone coming this close before. How lost in Samuel had she been?
“Were you really planning to strip off in the hall and seduce the Commander? Well, I suppose that’s all you could do.”
Linton looked Samuel up and down, sneering.
“That’s all a guy like you would have, right?”
Samuel’s face twisted in genuine pain. It was the first time Adrien had ever seen him truly wounded.
Only then did her reason return.
She instinctively sensed this was her last chance.
She grabbed Linton’s hand. Startled, Linton spun to face her, eyes wide.
“I haven’t introduced him yet. He’s going to be my exclusive Guide, Ensign.”
Samuel didn’t look surprised. His only reaction was a subtle twitch of his eyebrow. It was Linton who gasped in shock, sucking in a breath.
The rush of guiding energy that hit Adrien when she touched Linton was as nauseating as ever, but she endured it.
“From now on, Ensign Linton Vionne will be in charge of my health. So you don’t need to worry about giving me anything, Ensign.”
“Commander…”
“If you say another word, I’ll consider it insubordination. Now, I have to go get guided.”
She turned coldly, opened her office door, and stepped inside.
“Commander…!”
Through the closing door she saw Samuel’s desperate face, but she forced herself to look away. With his shirt half-unbuttoned, he looked heartbreakingly pitiful.
Thud. The door closed behind her with a sound like a prison gate slamming shut. Why did it feel like she was the one being locked up?
“Is this for real?”
What pulled Adrien out of her spiraling thoughts was a voice—oddly bright for the situation.
Linton’s blue eyes were sparkling as he looked at her, unable to hide his beaming smile.
“You’re really making me your exclusive Guide?”
“Yes.”
It was an impulsive decision, but now that she’d said it, she couldn’t take it back.
She flicked on the lights, dug the remaining application form out of her desk drawer, and handed it to Linton.
“If you want it, sign it, Captain.”
At this point, it didn’t even matter who became her exclusive Guide.
‘I wonder if Samuel is still outside the door.’
That was all she could think about. Would he believe her obvious lie? Knowing how quick he was, he’d probably already realized she didn’t like being guided by Linton at all.
Maybe that was for the best. At least now he’d know just how much she didn’t want to reject him.
So this was the right choice.
“Yes, you’ve made the right decision.”
Yes, that’s the way it should be.
