‧₊˚ ☁️⋅♡𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ☾.

There were probably wanted posters stuck up even near the monastery. The monk, recalling the couple who he had given a ride to yesterday, had come to verify if it was really us and how far we had gotten. It was certain they would turn back that way to report us.

“What do we do now?”

Killian glared at the monks who were slowly disappearing, then turned and went inside without a word. I followed him without hesitation as he headed toward where our luggage was kept.

‘Right. There’s no choice but to pack up and run.’

Pulling myself together, I searched through the bag for fresh clothes, when Killian handed me something. A revolver.

“You stay here.”

“Huh?”

“I’ll be back soon.”

He wasn’t trying to run away—he only had a small bag slung over his shoulder. A bag with just bullets, a knife, binoculars, and the like.

‘Is he going to kill those monks?’

My mind understood, but my heart could not. Seeing him so easily decide to kill someone didn’t feel like the man I knew.

While I stood dazed, he checked the pistol on his waist and gave me urgent instructions.

“Make sure to take your medicine and eat. Even if I don’t come back, or you hear noises, don’t go outside. Hide inside.”

As soon as he armed himself, he left without hesitation. I was only snapped back to reality when the front door opened.

“Killian, be careful.”

“You too. Lock the door as soon as I’m out.”

The door shut.

Click. Though I locked the door as he said, I had to fight the urge to open it and run after him.

Let’s just run away far from here.

“No… I can’t… I can’t…”

With my current condition, I wouldn’t last long even if I tried to run.

‘So he made the right decision—for me.’

I reluctantly took my hand off the doorknob but couldn’t leave the doorway and just paced.

‘Please come back safely.’

I worried for his body—and also for his mind.

Given he was a soldier and had earned medals for his service, it was natural to think he had killed many people. Yet strangely, I believed Killian had never actually killed anyone with his own hands.

He had wanted so badly to kill Major Felkner, but hesitated and couldn’t. He was that kind of man.

‘And now he’s decided to kill without hesitation.’

Whether he felt nothing now or forced himself to feel nothing because he mustn’t hesitate anymore—I wanted to know. I kept replaying the look in his eyes just before the door closed, but I couldn’t guess what was behind that gaze.

‘When he comes back…’

I’d understand.

‘If only he comes back…’

I thought chasing two monks wouldn’t take long for him, given his stamina. But no matter how long I waited, I heard neither footsteps nor gunshots from afar.

‘What happened?’

I looked outside through the curtains, then climbed up to the attic and scanned the distant road through the window, but I saw neither Killian nor a single dog.

From then on, I paced the room until I was dizzy.

Eventually, my body gave out. It wanted to lie back on the bed, but my heart couldn’t leave the door. I sat against the wall near it and let my imagination run wild with dark thoughts.

Absentmindedly, I brought my nails to my mouth but paused.

“……”

But there was no deep voice scolding me to stop biting my cuticles. Only the harsh sound of my irregular breathing filled the room.

“Killian… come back soon…”

Before I ruined my hands by biting every cuticle off.

“Ah…”

Eventually, I bled. Watching red seep from beneath my nails, I imagined Killian’s reaction first instead of feeling pain.

Seeing this, he’d scold me while feeling worse than I did.

I was desperate to hear his reprimand—it felt like I’d go mad without it.

The thin beam of light creeping through the curtains slowly faded and disappeared. If the man who left near noon didn’t return even after the long summer sun had set… who wouldn’t think of death? And if they thought of a loved one’s death, who wouldn’t lose their mind?

Click.

In the end, I broke Killian’s instructions and went outside.
