Chapter 43
If the sunlight was this stinging, it must be at least noon, and to think that he, who was so busy, stayed by her side until noon. Her mood, which had been down, began to float up.
“Hehe.”
It was a voice that was unsightly and cracked because her cold symptoms hadn’t vanished, but laughter kept leaking out. Would it feel like this if someone tickled her lungs with a feather? Her toes kept curling up, contrary to their owner’s will. Her whole body twisted and squirmed.
What am I going to do with this man.
As she was enjoying the remaining warmth by stroking the blanket with her index finger, the sound of a door opening echoed.
“Oh, My lady? You were awake?”
Since her mistress, whom she thought would be sleeping, was lying prone on the bed and laughing gloomily, Cecile felt bewildered yet couldn’t hide her creeped-out feeling. Her footsteps as she approached to check on Asha’s condition stopped upon discovering the corners of Asha’s mouth, which were curled up.
“Did something… good happen?”
“Hehehe.”
Asha, who responded to Cecile’s questioning words with a light laugh, raised her body. Perhaps because she had rolled around in bed, her fine hair was tousled.
Since she only let out a sinister laugh instead of answering, Cecile shook her head. She thought it would be better for her mental health not to listen. Asha, pressing her cheeks—which were softened by the warmth—up with both hands, asked Cecile.
“Where’s Harriet?”
“The Count went to work early because there was an urgent meeting at the Peliche Central Branch. Honestly….”
Cecile, who was continuing her words, shut her mouth. Thinking of the people who had flocked from the Central Branch since morning, she felt like she would still get the shivers. Usually, the higher the position one holds, the more they combine it with etiquette and composure, but those who flocked here today were far from composed. Banging on the door as if to break it down since morning was basic, and they held out in the drawing room saying they wouldn’t leave unless he attended the Central Branch meeting, so only the underlings suffered.
Of course, after finding out the full story—that Harriet had skipped and scaled back several meetings to stay by Asha’s side—she could understand their feelings, but….
Damn it, my own future is the most important.
As the one who had to enter the couple’s bedroom while they were savoring a happy, sweet, and heavenly time to report this fact, and receive the Count’s chilling gaze, Cecile couldn’t shake off her resentment. Her heart, which was pierced by that chilling gaze, still felt a stinging pain….
Asha, unaware of the previous situation, neatly finished the vegetable soup she received from Cecile. Thanks to the finely ground broccoli, it couldn’t exactly be called an appetizing visual, but perhaps hunger was the best sauce, as she finished the plate without leaving anything. It was a welcome sight for Cecile, who had been inwardly worried she might have no appetite.
However, far from giving her a reward for being commendable, Cecile held out a suspicious glass. For Asha, who was contentedly patting her stomach, it was no different from a disaster.
“Hmm?”
“You have to take your medicine, your medicine.”
Asha, who had been all smiles, instantly stiffened her face. Medicine? This? Even without tasting it, she could guess from the liquid’s funky smell that it would have an extremely bitter taste. Ugh, even just smelling it made her feel nauseous—how was she supposed to eat that? Asha, mimicking a gentle face, naturally shook her head. As if she had a choice.
Despite such a brazen protest, Cecile held out the glass with a faint smile.
“The Count prepared it personally for my lady. This isn’t the end, so you have to drink it quickly. Because there are still four more medicines left for you to take.”
When she saw her pushing in the tray, she wondered why she was bringing so much, and it seems it was because she was bringing many medicines in bundles. Even from the standpoint of an adult, Asha didn’t want to complain about not wanting to take medicine. But with the thick liquid boiling ominously, who could possibly say they would take it readily? Asha protested while faintly furrowing her brow.
“Is it okay to take this many medicines all at once? They say medicine becomes poison if taken in excess. When I was working my a*s off to get my Master’s degree back in the academy days, I saw hundreds of theses related to herbs, and they all said that overdose becomes poison….”
She explained well in various ways her intent—that she hated taking that many medicines, not just one, even if it killed her. Even though it was a remark that Asha thought caught the other off guard, Cecile’s smile only grew brighter. What is she up to? Around the time an ominous feeling brushed against the nape of Asha’s neck, a sharp sound echoed.
Thud—
Could a stack of documents be that thick? Moreover, there were several thick books that looked like they would be recognized as lethal weapons if they hit a person. Was it to the point that even the plush bed seemed to sink in an instant? Cecile, who had placed the stack of documents on the bed, let out a smirk.
“In preparation for my lady asking back like that, the Count personally prepared the theses. They are theses on the main ingredients of the medicine and theses on the effects that occur when consumed together.”
Is he crazy?
