Chapter 56
No matter how much she loved Harriet, she didn’t have the heart of steel to eat with her husband while stark naked. No doubt Asha’s cheeks would be flushed red, and Harriet would tease her throughout the meal.
At the harsh dinner scene she could already imagine, Asha begged with a crying voice. Even so, Harriet only shrugged and countered as if it were no big deal.
“If dignity is the problem, we can just dismiss the servants.”
“Harriet. Don’t be spiteful.”
A faint affection seeped through Asha’s act of repeatedly kissing his cheek. No matter how jaded a man was, it was a warm contact he couldn’t help but soften to.
Since Harriet didn’t pounce, Asha, thinking it was a silent yes, stood up. She didn’t forget to say she would see him at dinner.
Clack—
Even after Asha withdrew, Harriet did not leave the sofa for a long time. Lost in thought, he rubbed his thigh as if savoring the warmth Asha had left behind. It felt as if the sensation of the soft flesh he had gripped earlier was coming alive at his fingertips.
Would Asha know? That her husband is this gloomy and obsessive.
Knock, knock—
The aide carefully opened the door and entered. Although he had waited outside, anxiously gauging the presence within and choosing what seemed to be the best timing to enter, Harriet’s face seemed more sunk than before. The aide, suppressing the urge to bite his tongue right then and there, approached Harriet.
“What shall we do about the office work, Count?”
“…Let’s call it a day for now.”
Harriet, who stood up, replied lightly. As he unfastened his cufflinks and rolled up his sleeves, his thick forearms were revealed. The prominent veins allowed one to guess his state of mind.
“Klein.”
“Yes.”
The aide’s steps, which were about to withdraw, stopped. He was standing with his whole body tensed at the low calling of his name.
“Make the reports on Anastasia even more thorough.”
“More than… now, you mean?”
The reports on the Countess were already quite detailed. Although he had become somewhat used to it now, the reports filled with where she visited at what time and with whom sometimes gave him the chills. He had never seen anyone else follow their wife’s tracks so obsessively.
Harriet looked at Klein. There were rumors that the Count of Bellstein’s green eyes resembled the brilliant greenery of Peliche. However, encountering moments like this, Klein could not agree with those words.
Because his eyes, with his back to the light, were closer to a deep and mucky swamp.
“Don’t miss a single syllable of what she eats, who she talks to, and what objects her fingertips touch.”
After giving the short command, Harriet fell silent as if lost in thought. Harriet’s lips opened after he flicked his fingertips a few times as if recalling what he had held in his hand.
“…Put pressure on Rene Pharmaceutical. Tell them that if they can’t develop a d**g effective for high fevers, they should be prepared for bankruptcy.”
“…Yes.”
Like a capable aide, Klein suppressed the surging chills and replied with discipline. Harriet also gave a faint smile at the docile answer.
Asha, who had returned to her bedroom, let out a sigh of relief, not even knowing what was happening on the other side. Just from a bit of foreplay, her lower half was already soaking wet. If it hadn’t been for her underwear, the amount of love juice would have been dripping down her thighs.
Even though she had been subjected to such shameful acts, her flushed face and thumping heart showed no signs of calming down. It felt as if his cool yet heavy scent, reminiscent of greenery, was still lingering at the tip of her nose. Since they were so close, had it rubbed off on her skin too? Asha unconsciously raised her forearm, buried her nose in it, and took a deep breath, sniffing the scent.
“What are you doing, my lady?”
“Ah!”
A startled Asha let out a shrill squeal. Being caught in such a lewd act only made her even more embarrassed. After flushing with shame for a moment, she quickly came to her senses and raised her voice. Now was not the time to be so leisurely
“Cecile!”
We’re ruined, everything is ruined! Where had the image of her frozen stiff in front of him gone? Asha ran around haphazardly. She looked like a wild colt, but since this kind of appearance had been a daily occurrence since she had the cold, Cecile replied normally.
“Yes, my lady.”
“Now is not the time for this! Ha—Harriet seems to have noticed.”
Could a single sentence make a person’s neck feel so cold? Cecile shuddered at the feeling of her blood turning cold and said urgently.
“Doesn’t he know everything?”
“No. Seeing as he said he’d let it slide easily… he doesn’t seem to know exactly yet. So….”
Asha gripped Cecile’s hand tightly. Yes, since she had ‘this,’ it was fine. Even if she got caught by him, she could just use ‘this’ if necessary.
Asha’s eyes shone as she recalled the last resort among the plans she had prepared.
“Let’s move up the plan.”
How could anyone refuse, seeing those eyes full of determination?
Cecile nodded her head before she even realized it.
