Chapter 152
Macy composed herself. She would be more careful from now on, making sure to take the contraceptive properly.
Eren, after all, had a tendency to act recklessly when it came to s-x. He would come inside her and would often go on without hesitation, even when she was unconscious or passed out from exhaustion. Even though Macy was still somewhat naive about s-x, it felt excessive.
She hadn’t said anything at the time, too embarrassed to speak up. But now she realized she had to bring it up. She couldn’t keep avoiding it, especially when she was so unsure of herself in these matters.
‘When will he come back?’
A week had already passed. Soon, Eren would return after meeting with Madam Krygen.
Macy had felt somewhat lonely and restless in his absence. She had seen friends, but those moments had not been as comforting as she had hoped.
‘Still, I said I’d wait and trust him.’
Even if the day came when Eren grew tired of her, it would be a secret that couldn’t be revealed. Still, she didn’t want to show her vulnerable side to her friends.
At least she didn’t want to give up painting. Kieran had said that even if her name master no longer wanted her to work, he shouldn’t stop her from continuing her art. He had also told her not to give up on portrait work…
In fact, she had an outstanding commission because of Lady Werfel that she hadn’t canceled — the portrait of Marchioness Lingston.
Marchioness Lingston was close to Lady Werfel. While she wasn’t sure if the Duchess would cancel, it was an appointment she had made, and she should go through with it.
Macy decided that tomorrow would be the day she would go out without fear.
She couldn’t hide away in the cabin forever. No matter how bleak her situation was, she didn’t want to lose herself because of it.

Rubens stared quietly out the carriage window. As before, he held a newspaper or a book in his hand, but his gaze kept drifting aimlessly.
“What are you thinking about?”
Unable to suppress her curiosity, Isabella asked. The blue eyes that had been focused on the empty air shifted toward her.
“You were lost in thought during the ride.”
“I was thinking about a woman.”
“Macy?”
The name slipped from her lips without thinking, and it startled Isabella. It felt like she was admitting that she wanted to be the only one who held that position in Rubens’s life.
“It wasn’t her. But I suppose I should think about her for the remaining time. I almost forgot.”
Was that the truth? Rubens gave the impression that he didn’t want to speak anymore, but Isabella ignored him and continued talking.
“I asked Madam Krygen if she knew the name ‘Eren Wood.’”
“Yes, I heard about that.”
“Why didn’t you tell me beforehand?”
“I didn’t feel the need to.”
“I thought maybe someone else was impersonating Duke Krygen.”
Rubens laughed lightly upon hearing Isabella’s words, and for a moment, she felt embarrassed.
“You have quite the imagination, Lady.”
“If anyone else knew the truth, they would think the same. Duke Krygen was often sick when he was younger, so few people saw his face. Then, suddenly, he returns looking completely different…”
“Now that you mention it, that could be how others might think.”
He spoke in a dry and indifferent tone, as if he was talking about someone else. It seemed to have no effect on him even if someone, like Isabella, misunderstood.
Seeing his reaction, Isabella’s suspicions vanished.
‘It was a ridiculous assumption from the start.’
With those bright blue eyes and dark hair, there was no way he couldn’t be the Krygen family’s heir. His innate arrogance made it clear he could only be of noble birth.
“Then please, don’t get any closer to Macy.”
Suddenly, Rubens looked at her with a cold expression. His gaze was overwhelming, and Isabella, feeling intimidated, stuttered before quickly rebutting.
“There’s no need to make a fuss.”
“I thought we already agreed about this.”
“What if Macy tries to blackmail you with this?”
“Blackmail?”
Rubens scoffed openly, as though the idea was absurd.
“What could my mistress possibly gain from blackmailing me? She’s already been given everything she wants.”
