Chapter 168
Macy moaned softly, digging her nails into Rubens’s back as the sensation intensified.
“Just get it over with?”
Eren’s muscles tensed as if those of a beast, firming even after he had already climaxed once in the carriage. His grip on her hips was unyielding, pressing down repeatedly.
“No, that’s not what I— Ah!”
Macy whimpered helplessly. Soon, Rubens buried himself deep with his brow twisting. Macy, knowing this was a signal of his climax, widened her eyes.
“Eren, if you do it inside—”
But it was already too late. Warm fluid spread quickly inside her soft insides. Macy bit her lower lip as she felt the faint flow, drops leaking from where they joined.
Relief that it was over washed over her as her eyes grew heavy. Yet, the man before her seemed invigorated, not worn out. His pale face, as pale as a plaster statue, gained a slight flush. Despite having climaxed, the firm thing was disturbingly intense.
“If you do it while I’m asleep, don’t…”
“Yeah, got it.”
His response was oddly compliant, which made it even less trustworthy. A man who had never been satisfied throughout the night wouldn’t change overnight, not just after two times.
“Really. If you lie…”
“Why would I lie to you?”
A sweet voice gently embraced Macy, and the tender, affectionate kiss comforted her.
“Why would I lie to someone I love?”
Ah, it was a lie. The moment she heard the word ‘love,’ Macy realized it.
But the warmth of his embrace felt real, and she closed her eyes, focusing on the sensation. His intoxicating scent seemed to lull her to sleep, her mind fading into darkness.
“Sleep well, Macy.”
That memory was the last thing she recalled before drifting off to sleep. When she woke up, it was broad daylight.
“Eren…?”
Macy reached out beside her out of habit. There was no one there.
Other than the chirping of birds, there was no sign of life. As she sat up, there was no muscle soreness, and she was still in her pajamas.
Her body felt clean and refreshed. Eren couldn’t have been gentle, could he…?
‘What is this? A dream?’
Confused, she got out of bed and was about to head outside when she noticed a note on the nightstand.
<I’ll handle the urgent matters and come back.>
The elegant handwriting was his. The note confirmed that the passionate night they shared wasn’t just a dream.
It also reminded her that he had kept his promise. Why would I lie to someone I love? The voice that had whispered sweetly to her before sleep returned to her thoughts, and Macy’s lips slowly curled into a smile.

Rubens stepped out of the carriage. The Duke’s servants gathered outside the front door to welcome their master after his long journey. As he passed through them, his assistant, Kronen, followed closely by his side.
“Where is the Elder Madam?”
“She’s gone to the palace.”
Rubens had planned to greet the Elder Madam first, but the diligent woman had already left. Even though it had only been a day, he was certain she must have heard about the events on Senew Street.
The Krygen family was usually lenient with mistresses, but Rubens had expected a reprimand this time, which was now clearly avoided. That was, of course, something Rubens was pleased about.
“Have the directors gathered?”
“Yes, they are waiting in the conference room.”
Rubens had returned to the Duke’s residence early this morning, after spending the night with Macy, for this very reason. Today, a meeting was scheduled to discuss the railroad construction timelines and work priorities, along with other minor matters.
Normally, he should have arrived yesterday to review the agenda and handle the pending tasks at the estate. His meticulously planned schedule, down to the minute, had been disrupted by a certain woman.
Still, Rubens didn’t mind.
Normally, he would have been annoyed, but he was strangely unbothered. It could have been worse, and while it was dreadful to be the subject of people’s gossip, it had been a fairly enjoyable date.
In fact, now that they had spent the night at the cabin, he was even more concerned about not being able to keep his promise to always spend the morning together.
‘The note didn’t get blown away, did it?’
Rubens ascended the stairs, his mind drifting back to the memory of the bedroom window—had it been properly closed?
“Duke Krygen, you’re back.”
A soft voice greeted him from above. Benedict, with a bright smile, was coming down the stairs. This was their first meeting since the night he had disappeared with Macy during the banquet.
