“I won’t interfere with your meeting! You can meet her as much as you want at night! If you want, you can hide her at the Duke’s estate and I won’t say a word! Have children with her! I don’t care if you have an illegitimate child! Please, just don’t call off the wedding, please… The wedding with you has been my lifelong dream. Please don’t take that away from me. Please… sob…”

Her eyes that were always haughty, were now filled with tears. Even though her face, with its reddened eyes, would have melted the hearts of many men, Rubens felt no emotion at all.

“This is what I find bothersome. Let go.”

Without a second thought, Rubens shrugged off her hand and walked out of the room. The sound of the door closing felt like her heart had fallen somewhere deep underground. It rolled and crashed into a far corner.

“This is impossible…”

Isabella, thrown aside like trash on the street in a single moment, couldn’t believe it. It felt surreal.

“This is impossible! Aaaah!!”

Unable to hold back her anger, Isabella grabbed whatever object was within reach and threw it. The sound of something shattering loudly split the air.

How long had she been throwing things in a fit of rage? A knock on the door echoed through the room.

“Lady Werfel, may I come in for a moment?”

“Go away! Just go away!!”

She shouted without even checking who it was. However, the person outside opened the door and entered anyway.

Isabella froze when she saw the person’s face. She recognized it. Where had she seen this person before? It wasn’t recently, but…

“Don’t you want revenge?”

“Has the doctor arrived?”

“Yes. She just finished her examination and left a little while ago.”

Rubens headed straight to his office. As soon as Kronen followed him inside, he repeated the doctor’s words verbatim.

“The doctor mentioned that Macy’s health has been declining recently, and she seems to faint frequently. She’s not getting enough sunlight and isn’t eating well, so her nutritional status is very poor. If this continues, she may soon develop malnutrition, and the doctor also said there’s significant trauma to her g*****l area.”

A long, tired sigh escaped Rubens. He loosened his tight cravat and rolled up his shirt sleeves. Rubens never intended for things to go this far. This wasn’t something he had planned.

‘I’ve been having trouble with my memory lately.’

At the engagement meeting, he had tried to act normal, but his mind still felt foggy, as though he had taken some kind of d**g.

This sensation had started the day he had been with Macy again. That day, Rubens had penetrated her without even the slightest tenderness, wanting her to feel only pain from the act. He wanted her to hate and despise Eren, to want to escape him but realize she couldn’t, to resign herself to her fate.

He didn’t want her to expect anything from him, nor did he wish for her to harbor any illusions.

But every time he saw her eyes full of expectation, his heart ached in some strange way, like he was committing a great sin.

He had long since decided to rid himself of such emotions. There was no need for them if he was to keep her by his side. What mattered now was making her believe she could never escape him, that he was her master.

But was it Rubens who was brainwashed?

Every time he took Macy’s sweet body, his mind grew hazy. What was meant to be a cruel thrust softened, and he found himself lapping at her creamy skin like a man possessed.

It was like the fruit of good and evil. It was poisonous, yet impossible to resist. The allure was so strong that even knowing it was poisoned, he had to bite into it.

And so, like a madman, he would embrace Macy, only to snap out of it hours later, the days having passed without him realizing. The first time he had held her, he hadn’t even realized the sun had risen, having spent the whole night with her. He had thought it would end there.

But it kept happening, repeatedly, over the course of about a month….

His last memory was from Wednesday. It seemed like he had just entered, but then Kronen came in and told him about the engagement meeting.

For three days, he had kept Macy with him.

Her body was bruised and swollen with congestion. It was in such a terrible state that Rubens wondered if he had struck her without realizing it.

He had immediately summoned the doctor to examine Macy after leaving the room. Luckily, there were no serious injuries, but the situation felt somewhat grave.

Rubens wondered if he had finally lost his mind. He had already known he was mad for Macy, but this seemed like something more.

It felt like his mind was broken.
