Chapter 238
The snow seemed to grow harsher, and the strong wind rattled the window.
Macy tossed and turned for a long time before finally falling asleep near midnight.
How long had she been asleep? Suddenly, warmth touched her cheek, and she slowly opened her eyes.
“Anna…?”

The room was pitch dark without a single ray of light.
The window rattled from the strong wind.
A shadow sat faintly on the edge of the bed.
The hand, which had stopped at her voice, gently stroked her cheek again.
“Why are you so late? Were you busy? Did something happen today?”

“Or… are you upset because I said I wouldn’t look at the baby?”
Anna seemed very upset that she gave no answer.
“I want to see the baby too. But if I see the baby, I’m afraid I’ll start wanting to live again. And I don’t want to feel bad about leaving the baby behind…”

No matter how much Anna wanted to take care of Macy’s baby, she knew it wasn’t right to let her.
She didn’t want to burden the struggling Anna even after death.
Macy poured out her long-held worries and waited for Anna’s reply.
Anna paused thoughtfully, stopped stroking her cheek, then spoke.
“Well, it’s true. It doesn’t make sense to entrust your baby to a friend when the father is still alive.”
But her voice sounded strange. Hearing Anna’s low, hoarse tone, Macy froze like a statue.
She noticed that the hand touching her cheek was rougher than Anna’s.
“Why… why is it you…”
“Did you really think you could carry my name and escape?”
Whoosh—!
The window, rattling noisily, suddenly burst wide open against the fierce cold wind.
The curtains fluttered, and moonlight faintly lit the room.
The goosebumps that started at her fingertips quickly spread over her entire body.
Eren stood there, looking down at Macy with cold, sharp eyes.
“G-go away!”
Macy panicked, trembling.
“D-don’t touch me! Aah!”
She twisted her body, trying desperately to get away.
Though she shook her head and escaped his hand on her cheek, her stiff body barely obeyed her will.
To others, her movements seemed like pitiful twitching.
“Stay still. I won’t do anything.”
“Don’t come. Don’t come!! Stay away!”
Her mind was filled only with the urge to flee him.
Noticing her distress, Eren shoved his hand into Macy’s mouth.
“Damn it. Are you crazy?”
He stopped her from biting her tongue. There was a metallic taste of blood.
Eren gripped her shoulders and arms tightly, causing pain.
He pressed down instinctively to stop her convulsions, but Macy remembered the past violence from the pressure.
“Ugh, ugh. Hah, hah. Heh, heh. Hah, hah.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Hah, hah. Hup, hup. Hah, hah.”
“Macy! Snap out of it!”
Macy was hyperventilating, unable to breathe properly even though her throat wasn’t strangled.
Her neck turned red as she gasped, and Eren’s face turned pale as a sheet.
“Get a hold of yourself!!”
Not knowing what to do, he shook her, but her panting only worsened.
“Get away!”
Suddenly, the door burst open, and someone entered.
They quickly got between Eren and Macy, took out an oxygen mask from their pocket, and placed it over Macy’s mouth.
“Macy, it’s okay. Breathe slowly. That’s right. Take a deep breath and count slowly.”
“Huff, hah, huh. Huff. Hah.”
It was Anna, Macy’s friend.
Even with the mask, Macy struggled to calm down, trembling as she kept looking at Eren.
“Please leave, Duke Krygen.”
“Wh-why is Macy like this?”
“Leave immediately if you don’t want Macy to die right here.”
