Chapter 249
Macy continued the Name treatment steadily. As a result, she regained movement in her hand.
Though awkward at first, holding a pencil and brush again didn’t feel unfamiliar. Naturally, her first painting was a portrait of her child, Adrian.
“Wow, that’s so cute. You said you were worried since you hadn’t painted in a while, but there’s no need to worry at all.”
“Oh, Attorney Frederick, you’re here.”
While Macy was deeply focused on painting, the attorney preparing for the trial behind her spoke as he looked at the work.
Frederick was the Krygen family’s legal advisor, sent by Eren after Macy hesitated and asked for help.
“Yes, the trial date has been set.”
Macy received the court notice. The more she read, the more her hand trembled slightly.
Now it finally felt real—she was going to face Yannick in court.
“There’s no need to be nervous. Miss Horton’s innocence will be easily proven.”
Despite Macy’s worries about how to prove she was the proxy painter, the attorney said there was a simple and straightforward way to reclaim her name: demonstrate her painting skills in court.
They had obtained some of Yannick’s recent paintings and discovered subtle differences in coloring techniques.
Comparing them with paintings Macy had made under Yannick’s name proved that someone else had painted the recent works.
“Thank you, attorney. I don’t even know how to express my gratitude.”
“We haven’t won yet, so I’ll accept thanks then. Maybe you could paint portraits of me and my wife later, haha!”
“Of course! I’ll give you a hundred pieces!”
“Oh, if you say that, the Duke will scold me for making you work hard!”
The attorney Eren introduced was cheerful and easygoing, so even the somewhat shy Macy had no trouble preparing for the trial.
“By the way, how is your walking?”
“It’s okay, but I still need crutches.”
“Hmm. Actually, you don’t have to walk into the courtroom. Using a wheelchair might even gain some sympathy from the people.”
Macy decided to have a public trial.
Even if it stirred sympathy from the public, they had no right to judge, but it was the best way to socially ruin Yannick.
However—
“No, I don’t want to show any weakness to that person.”
How much did Yannick belittle her to try and steal her name again? How low must he have thought of her to paint with the same style and keep branding Macy a fraud until the end, even though she was near death?
Macy didn’t want to show any vulnerable side to Yannick, who already saw her as insignificant.
This time, she would finally break free from their bad fate and reclaim her name.
Frederick nodded at Macy’s determined look.
“Then I’ll see you in court. Take care of yourself so we can walk in there with confidence!”
“Yes, thank you, Attorney Frederick.”
To enter the court without crutches, Macy needed to intensify the Name treatment.
Currently, Macy and Eren continued the treatment while holding each other. At first, just lying on the same bed made Macy tremble with anxiety, but now she was somewhat accustomed.
Eren’s gentle attitude during the treatment helped her adapt.
“Just lie down, so I’ll hold you.”
“Me…?”
“Even when you touch my face it makes me have a seizure, so you can’t hold me.”
“Oh…”
Eren remembered their first day together. Somehow, he’d always been cautious even when holding her hand.
“Okay.”
Macy also preferred this method.
If she lay still too long, she might fall asleep, and Eren had the habit of hugging tightly even while asleep.
Though she used to sleep well that way, now she couldn’t be sure seizures wouldn’t come.
So, Eren lay on his back staring at the ceiling, and Macy held his arm in a somewhat stiff pose as the Name treatment progressed.
“Sorry, I must have dozed off.”
“…That’s okay.”
Sometimes Macy fell asleep during the sessions, but Eren never did. When Macy woke up embarrassed and got up, Eren calmly removed his blindfold and left.
