Chapter 280
Holding Adrian in his arms.
“When did you come out?”
“A little while ago.”
Adrian was asleep peacefully in his arms.
‘If it was a little while ago, did he see me hugging Joshua?’
Eren’s expression was oddly subdued. Macy opened her mouth, worried he might misunderstand.
“Joshua has a lover.”
“Alright.”
“They’ve been seeing each other recently, and it’s pretty intense!”
Though it might clear up misunderstandings if she mentioned Joshua’s orientation, Macy couldn’t just blurt that out.
“Got it. No need to explain.”
“Then this isn’t an excuse…!”
It was really unfair! That guy was interested in you, not me!
“Come inside and eat. I don’t care what you do.”
“So you don’t care, Eren?”
Macy couldn’t believe what she’d just heard.
‘Did he just say he doesn’t care no matter what I do?’
Eren went inside with Adrian without another word.
“What’s going on?”
Something felt off.
* * *
There was a strong sense that something was out of place.
It had been two months since they came to the cabin.
Though with Adrian there, it wasn’t a normal honeymoon, but they were here to enjoy it nonetheless.
Yet, they hadn’t shared a bed even once.
Still, Macy thought things between her and Eren were going well.
They hadn’t had any petty arguments, Eren was affectionate, and aside from sleeping together, they’d shared light kisses and deep caresses without hesitation.
But after hearing that, Macy realized something was wrong.
“Come inside and eat. I don’t care what you do.”
Why didn’t he care? Did that mean he wouldn’t mind if Macy cheated?
Was it because nobles openly keep mistresses after marriage? Or did he not love her anymore?
The thought that his feelings might have cooled made her heart sink.
She’d heard that couples sometimes grow distant after having children, but never thought it would apply to them.
Now that she thought about it, they hadn’t shared a bed even once since their reunion—not since coming to the cabin either.
It was clear Eren was deliberately avoiding it.
“Is something bothering you?”
“Huh?”
Macy snapped out of her thoughts at the familiar voice. She was currently at the palace.
Today was the day she taught painting to Princess Christian at the palace.
The noble princess, with golden hair and mysterious violet eyes, had recently become an acquaintance of Macy through her official duties as Duchess Krygen.
Though more of a social acquaintance than a close friend, the princess had taken an immediate liking to Macy and asked if she could teach her painting—something Macy reluctantly agreed to.
So today’s “lesson” was more like painting together and socializing.
“No, did I say something wrong?”
“You keep sighing.”
“Did I really? I’m sorry, Your Highness. I didn’t mean to ruin the mood.”
Macy quickly bowed her head. No matter how busy she was, it was inappropriate to act that way in front of the princess.
“It’s okay. Everyone has days like that. If you have something on your mind, you can tell me—I’m actually pretty good at giving advice.”
“Well, it’s a very personal issue…”
“Personal? Now I’m even more curious.”
Princess Christian’s eyes lit up with interest. Macy wasn’t good at lying.
Given the princess’s personality, she didn’t expect her to let it go easily. Hesitating, Macy took a deep breath and cautiously spoke.
“My husband has been acting a little strange lately…”
“Duke Krygen? How so?”
“It feels like he’s changed…”
“Changed?”
“I mean… maybe he’s lost interest… or doesn’t want me anymore…”
Her voice grew softer as she spoke. Confiding in someone made her feel even more vulnerable, as if her pride as a woman was being chipped away.
“That can’t be true.”
The princess tilted her head in puzzlement.
“You know your husband almost married me, right? Ah, saying it like that sounds weird…”
