‘I used to be happy that my family was prospering because of me…’
Now, it only left her feeling bitter. They hadn’t loved her as a family member; they loved Macy because she could produce profitable paintings.
‘I was too complacent.’
If the name’s master had not appeared, it was inevitable that her hands would eventually stiffen.
Macy realized that instead of feeding her family with the money from her paintings, she should have planned for her own sustenance in such times. She regretted not living differently if she could go back, but fortunately, now she didn’t have to.
She had found the master of her name.
Knock, knock.
Soon, there was a knock at the door. She was about to frown, wondering what it was this time, but then a cheerful voice called out.
“Macy!”
A woman with red curly hair and charming freckles entered. Her name was Anna Rose, Macy’s childhood friend who knew about her painting in Yannick’s stead.
“Anna! How did you get here without calling?”
“I took a leave when I heard you found your name’s master! I’m so glad for you!”
Anna immediately hugged Macy. She worked as a maid for a noble family, so they couldn’t meet often.
“Can you paint again now?”
“Yes. And look at this.”
Macy got up from her seat. Like a toddler learning to walk, she started moving slowly but steadily without any support.
“My goodness! You can walk without crutches now! It’s wonderful, Macy! So wonderful!”
“Why are you crying? It’s a happy occasion.”
Tears quickly welled up in her brown eyes.
“I’m just so happy. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you smile like this. Only happy things from now on, okay?”
“Thank you, Anna.”
Macy warmly hugged her back.
“But what’s he like?”
“Who?”
“Eren Wood, the person who is your name’s master. What does he look like? Is he handsome?”
“I don’t really know.”
“Why not? Haven’t you seen him?”
Anna wiped her tears, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
“I haven’t seen him. I wear a blindfold during the treatment.”
“What?”
Anna looked shocked. It seemed this wasn’t a common practice, judging from her reaction.
“Isn’t that kind of perverted? To do that with blindfolds?”
“We haven’t done much, just held hands so far.”
“But you recovered so quickly?”
“Yes. But Anna, there’s something I want to ask…”
Macy’s voice dropped noticeably, even though it was just the two of them in the room, she spoke in a hushed tone.
“When someone touches the name, does something different happen?”
Macy had been waiting for Anna.
She was the only person she could discuss intimate matters with, as Macy had been confined to her room for so long and was out of touch with the world.
In contrast, Anna, who was outgoing and well-connected, knew a lot of people and a lot of things, so most of what Macy knew came from her.
“Don’t you know? Didn’t I tell you last time?”
“Tell me what?”
Anna’s expression suggested it was something obvious.
“Being with a name master is supposed to be amazing.”
“I heard that, but this is just touching the name…”
“That’s why it’s amazing. Because it leads to going to bed with the name’s master.”
Macy blinked, not fully grasping her words.
“How should I put this? Touching the name makes you feel hot, tingly, maybe even itchy down there, you know?”
Anna shivered and wrapped her arms around herself as she tried to explain energetically.
“Itchy down there? Like a rash?”
Macy was confused by the explanation. The more she heard, the more she felt like she was wandering through a maze.
“Oh, Macy! How can you be so naive?”
Anna looked exasperated, like a parent scolding a naive child.
“It means it’s s-xually stimulating.”
“…What?”
“In plain words, it turns you on!”
The blunt explanation made it suddenly clear. At the same time, Eren’s reaction on the first day flashed through her mind.
“Tsk.”
The sound he couldn’t suppress when their fingertips first touched.
“Really… You don’t know what happens when a destined name’s master touches the letters?”
“What happens?”
“Should I call this naivety or ignorance?”
