The paintings from Obelit were, as Rubens had said, surprisingly impressive. With a population much larger than Ciseina’s, there were many talented artists with unique styles.

However, despite the abundance, the artworks lacked fine details that would make them truly exceptional. This was likely because their talents hadn’t been properly developed.

‘I have to accept it since it was decided before I arrived, as Mother instructed.’

None of the paintings fully captivated him. Still, if he chose well, he could certainly make a positive impact on the Ciseina art scene. It was Benedict’s role to select the most talented artists.

“What’s that over there?”

As he was on his way to view the collected paintings, he saw an easel through a partially open door. The canvas on it was large.

“I don’t recall seeing such a massive painting…”

Had Rubens forgotten to show him one of the paintings? Benedict pushed the door open and entered the room. The lighting was too bright for storing paintings, and he only saw that one piece.

Art supplies like palettes and paints were set beside a chair. It seemed to be a work in progress rather than a completed piece.

‘Is there an artist residing in the estate?’

While it was uncommon for an artist to stay in a patron’s mansion in Obelit, it was not unusual in Ciseina. Since Duke Krygen had a great interest in art, it was possible.

Benedict assumed this painting might be among those previously shown, and approached with minimal expectations.

“What is this…?”

Benedict’s steps slowed as he looked at the painting, his eyes widening in disbelief. His eyes, that were usually steady, trembled slightly.

“Who are you?”

Just as his mouth fell open in surprise, a voice called out. Turning around, he saw a woman with milk-white, translucent skin watching him.

“You don’t seem to be an employee of the Duke’s household. Are you a guest?”

“I, I…”

The woman’s pale green eyes showed a hint of suspicion. Her delicate features—eyes, nose, and mouth—were perfectly balanced on her small face.

Her naturally flowing hair and simple sky-blue skirt, with a knot at the waist that highlighted her slender figure, were striking. Benedict was momentarily taken aback by her appearance, but he cleared his throat and introduced himself.

“I am Prince Benedict Stein of the Kingdom of Ciseina. I have been staying at Duke Krygen’s residence for a few days after being invited.”

“The prince of Ciseina? Oh my! I’ve committed a grave mistake, Your Highness! I didn’t recognize you…”

Macy dropped to the floor in shock. Benedict immediately helped her up.

“It’s alright. There’s no need for such formalities. It’s only natural that you wouldn’t recognize someone you haven’t met before. Please, get up.”

“Y-Yes, but…”

Macy hesitated as she stood up, her mouth flapping as she struggled to find the right words, which Benedict found it cute. She looked younger than him; was she even of age?

Benedict offered a gentle smile and asked quietly.

“May I ask your name?”

“Yes, I’m Macy Horton.”

“Macy Horton…”

Benedict repeated her name, unable to take his eyes away from her.

“Why have you come to the Duke’s residence, Miss Macy?”

“I’ve been commissioned to paint the portrait for the Duke’s engagement.”

“Pardon? So you’re the one who painted that portrait?”

“Yes.”

Benedict looked back at the painting on the easel.

It was a portrait of Duke Krygen and his fiance, Lady Werfel. The natural pose, the vivid depiction of the skin tones, and the detailed folds of their clothing were all captured perfectly.

The portrait was more striking than the single portrait of Duke Krygen hanging in the Long Gallery, and it captured his somewhat sharp appearance fittingly for the engagement painting.

The painting created a harmonious atmosphere with Lady Werfel standing beside him.

To think that this woman had painted such an impressive piece left Benedict in awe. He had believed there were no talented female artists in Obelit, so this discovery was even more astonishing.

Furthermore, the artist’s appearance seemed to match the beauty of her work.

“Miss Macy, come with me.”

“Pardon?”

Unable to contain his excitement, Benedict took Macy’s hands in his. This artist needed to be brought to Ciseina. He had planned to take on a few new artists, and this was perfect timing.

Meeting her at such a moment felt like fate to Benedict.
