‘Still being cautious? There’s no one here except Chief Joo who came along this time.’

“Me?”

Suhyeon asked back, lifting her gaze. Jeonghan was looking at her with an elegant curve to his eyes.

“It feels like you’re sitting here as Manager Seol Suhyeon.’’

Suhyeon slowly lowered her eyelashes.

“…Well, this is a business trip for me.’’

Just moments ago, she had said “I,” and now she was saying “for me,” her words as muddled as her thoughts. Knowing she was all over the place, she stubbornly kept her eyes down.

“I’ve told you several times that’s just an excuse. And besides…”

Jeonghan didn’t let her slide by so easily, as she had hoped.

Suhyeon had no choice but to lift her gaze from the coffee cup she had been staring at.

Jeonghan, his long legs elegantly crossed, was wearing an alluring smile.

“Because I intend to do things onboard that one shouldn’t do with a business partner.’’

“What?’’

Suhyeon blinked in shock.

“If you call me Director while on the bed, I might feel like a bad guy. Just giving you a heads-up,’’ Jeonghan said casually.

“I-I never gave my permission!’’

Jeonghan chuckled lightly at her flustered reaction, then shifted his gaze back to the tablet.

“Then resist. If you can.’’

‘…….’

His low voice carried a suggestive undertone. Suhyeon felt the familiar warmth rise to her cheeks.

Last night, too, he didn’t let her resist.

She had tried to push him away, saying he should stop since she had to leave on the business trip. But in the end, she found herself pleading, sobbing, Please, please… somehow, just do something.

Every night was like that, so it wasn’t surprising he seemed so composed now.

Suhyeon narrowed her eyes and glared at him.

Do Jeonghan’s relaxed demeanor was both infuriating and, somehow, still managed to make her heart flutter.

She felt like a woman hopelessly falling for her ex-husband after the fact, unable to regain her senses.

‘No,’

Suhyeon denied inwardly.

Lately, spending almost every night entwined with Jeonghan had left her with a growing sense of crisis. A fear that if she let even this boundary crumble, she wouldn’t be able to hold herself together any longer.

Maybe, she had already crumbled every night.

Perhaps every night, as she surrendered to Do Jeonghan, she was forcibly swallowing back the words that rose to the tip of her tongue…

The words that carried the terrifying realization: I might have already fallen in love with you.

‘No, not yet,’

Suhyeon stubbornly muttered to herself, fiddling with the ring he had given her, even though she knew better than anyone that those words were a lie.

The ring on her finger was proof enough of that.

The fear of having fallen so easily for someone she had resented and hated for five long years made her ignore her honest feelings.

When she boarded the private jet, she noticed the interior had been redone in the meantime.

‘Well, it has been a while,’

Suhyeon thought, retracing her memories.

The last time she had flown on this jet was before Chairman Do had been hospitalized—more than two years ago.

It sometimes felt like a strange coincidence when she thought about it. That both Do Jeonghan’s only family and what Suhyeon considered her only family had passed away in the same year.

After reuniting with her while she was in a vegetative state, Suhyeon had never exchanged a single word with Oh Kyung-hee. She hadn’t even seen her with her eyes open.”

Even so, there were moments when she felt relieved just knowing there was still someone in the world who was on her side.

That faint hope, that Oh Kyung-hee might miraculously wake up one day, had once given her the strength to endure on days when it felt almost unbearable.

And that was why, after Kyung-hee passed away, Suhyeon had immediately resolved to divorce. She had no strength left to endure anymore.

…What about now?

“What are you staring at like that?’’

Jeonghan’s voice broke through her thoughts, and Suhyeon turned her gaze toward him.

There he was, with those deep eyes focused solely on her, his handsome face framed in her view.

A face she had once found so detestable.

“The interior has changed,’’

She said, deflecting as she shifted her focus to the surroundings.

“It’s because company executives can use it now,”

Jeonghan explained, walking ahead of her.

Though other private jets were available for the executives, it seemed Jeonghan had been mindful about using the best one, which had belonged to Chairman Do, all to himself.

Come to think of it…

Suhyeon suddenly felt something strange.
