Chapter 156

“Do Jeonghan is canceling the contract? Is that for real?”
Do Cheoljun asked, widening his eyes as he looked at Chief Lee.
“Yes, Director.”
Chief Lee answered politely.
“She’s definitely left the country, hasn’t she?”
At Do Cheoljun’s incredulous words, Chief Lee explained,
“She suddenly returned to the country.”
“Why?”
“There’s information that someone is trying to find out where Seol Suhyeon went after the airport. That night, Seol Suhyeon, who appeared in front of Do Jeonghan’s house, seemed to be running away. It’s likely something happened between her and Do Jeonghan, who followed her.”
Hearing Chief Lee’s words, Do Cheoljun blinked a few times before furrowing his brow.
“Because of Seol Suhyeon? Is that bastard insane?! Do you know how much that business is worth, and he’s throwing it away over some woman? Ha…”
Rubbing his forehead in irritation, Do Cheoljun suddenly smiled brightly, baring his gums.
“…I couldn’t be more grateful. That son of a b***h. Wow, pulling off something this crazy at such a perfect time, huh?”
Watching Do Cheoljun laugh nastily, Chief Lee, who had been quietly smiling, adjusted his glasses and spoke.
“And it seems there were some unpleasant rumors circulating in the company on the day Ms. Seol Suhyeon left the country.”
Do Cheoljun, who had been chuckling, stopped laughing and looked sharply at Chief Lee.
“What rumors?”
“The day before, someone used the company bulletin board to reveal that Do Jeonghan had divorced her, mixing in some malicious accusations. It seems she submitted a leave of absence that afternoon and then departed.”
“Ah… really?”
Raising one eyebrow, Do Cheoljun laughed heartily.
“Whoever it is, they deserve an award. Huh? Whether it’s malicious slander or the truth, who cares? Isn’t that right?”
Chief Lee quietly smiled back at Do Cheoljun, who was smirking.
The reason Suhyeon chose Sweden as her destination wasn’t particularly special.
When she was at the café with Hyunwoo, looking up at the sky, she felt an impulsive urge that she couldn’t endure staying here any longer and headed to the airport.
At the airport, the flight that could depart the soonest was to Sweden.
That was all there was to it.
She merely thought it was fortunate that the flight was long enough for her to get some deep sleep.
After returning from the Caribbean with Do Jeonghan, the events of the following two days had completely drained her.
She was so exhausted that she couldn’t even feel any emotions, which was, in a way, a relief.
In that state of utter fatigue, Suhyeon neither ate nor stayed awake during the entire flight, instead sleeping the whole way. She was so worn out that a flight attendant, seemingly concerned, woke her up at one point.
When she arrived at Landvetter Airport in Sweden, she realized she hadn’t brought anything other than her wallet and phone, and she laughed a little.
‘Looks like I’ve really lost my mind.’
Coming to a place like this with absolutely nothing.
After exchanging some money at the airport, she asked a staff member for help and took a taxi to a hotel in the city. Thankfully, the city wasn’t far.
Checking into a hotel in this unfamiliar country, she thought that everything that had happened in Korea felt like a dream.
Maybe reality itself was the dream.
Suhyeon, thinking those thoughts, lay down on the bed and fell into a deep sleep once again.
After spending nearly two days sleeping, Suhyeon had a light meal and then went to the islands near Gothenburg.
There were wide grassy fields and sandy beaches, but the desolate winter shore seemed even colder under the cloudy sky.
Suhyeon, dressed in a simple ivory long dress with a leather jacket draped over her, sat on a bench gazing at the deep emerald sea.
The dark-colored seawater weighed heavily on her heart.
The deep, rolling waves of the ocean stirred up memories of the past.
Suhyeon closed her eyes tightly.
When she slowly opened them, tears welled up in her eyes.
No matter how far she went, she couldn’t stop thinking about Do Jeonghan.
Just the thought of him made her chest ache as if it were being squeezed in pain…
Seol Hee-nam had killed Do Jeonghan’s parents and Do Jeonghan had married her to take revenge on him.
