“What, what’s going on?!”

Seol Hee-nam froze in his tracks.

Screech! Screeeeech—!

The headlights of police cars rushing in from all directions surrounded him, making Seol Hee-nam squint.

A luxury foreign car stopped at the very front. Its door opened, and Do Jeonghan quickly stepped out.

“!”

Suhyeon collapsed on the ground, her face a mess.

Seeing her like that, veins bulged in Jeonghan’s eyes as if they were about to burst.

“Seol Suhyeon!”

Jeonghan ran straight toward her.

At that moment, Seol Hee-nam, stunned, looked at Jeonghan and the police officers getting out of their cars one after another.

W-what are these people?!

Seol Hee-nam hesitated for a moment before trying to run toward his house’s gate, but a detective caught him.

“Who are you people?! Let me go!”

Seol Hee-nam glared fiercely, struggling to break free from the detectives’ grip.

“Aagh!”

The detective, twisting his arm behind his back, cuffed him and said,

“Mr. Seol Hee-nam. You are under arrest for murder, solicitation of murder, illegal bribery, and defamation.”

“……!!”

Seol Hee-nam’s oily eyes widened in shock.

“M-murder?! What kind of nonsense is that?! I was just humoring that brat Seol Suhyeon earlier! I didn’t commit any murder! Oh Kyung-hee jumped on her own because she didn’t want to live anymore!”

Even as he was dragged away, cuffed and held by both arms, Seol Hee-nam thrashed, trying to free himself. The detectives shoved him into the police car and drove off immediately.

In the midst of the commotion, Jeonghan, with trembling hands, lifted Suhyeon’s face to examine her.

“…Jeonghan.”

Suhyeon looked at him apologetically.

Seeing her bruised and swollen face, with split lips, Jeonghan clenched his teeth tightly.

“What is this… What have you done?”

His voice, lowered by fury, came out like a suppressed growl. Hearing the pain in his voice, Suhyeon’s expression grew more remorseful.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you beforehand. I knew Seol Hee-nam would deny everything to the end…”

“Did you think I wouldn’t have prepared for that?”

His voice, tightly controlled, trembled with anger. Suhyeon, meeting his bloodshot eyes, lowered her gaze.

“I wanted revenge too… for my mother.”

Suhyeon, speaking softly, lifted her gaze to Jeonghan.

“I’m sorry for making you worry.”

“……”

Jeonghan looked at her with pained eyes, his face twisted as if her wounds hurt him more than they hurt her.

He couldn’t even breathe properly as he stared at her, finally exhaling a rough breath.

“…First, let’s get you to the hospital.”

Grinding his teeth, Jeonghan lifted Suhyeon into his arms. As he walked toward the car, Chief Joo hurriedly opened the door for them.

Just before getting into the car, Suhyeon turned around abruptly and called out.

“W-wait a moment! Chief Park!”

At her words, Chief Park, who had been standing some distance away, approached.

“Are you all right?”

Hours earlier, Suhyeon had asked Chief Park to accompany her to meet Seol Hee-nam and record everything. She had specifically requested that he not intervene unless her life was in imminent danger. She needed evidence to put the man who killed her mother behind bars.

Chief Park had tried to dissuade her, but Suhyeon’s resolve left him unable to refuse.

However, as a precaution, he had informed Chief Joo, which was the best he could do to ensure her safety.

“You recorded it all, right?”

At Suhyeon’s worried question, Chief Park replied,

“Yes, I recorded everything.”

Thank goodness…

Suhyeon’s expression softened in relief.

She had wanted to personally send Seol Hee-nam to hell, but this was the best she could do. Setting a trap for him, in the exact same way he had done to Do Jeonghan, was her only option.

“I’m sorry for asking you to do something so difficult.”

“It’s nothing. Please, go to the hospital now.”

Chief Park bowed slightly and stepped back.

Jeonghan gently helped Suhyeon into the back seat before climbing in beside her. Carefully, he laid her head on his lap.

Chief Joo quickly got into the driver’s seat and spoke.

“I’ve already contacted Dr. Oh. We’ll head straight there.”

“As fast as possible.”

Jeonghan’s voice was heavy with restrained emotion as he looked down at Suhyeon.

Suhyeon, gazing up at his stern, hardened face, reached out and lightly touched his cheek.

“Were you… very worried?”

Jeonghan clasped her hand against his cheek, holding it firmly.

“I even saw that devil put a knife to your throat. Do you think I was in my right mind coming all the way here?”

Jeonghan looked down at her with dark, clouded eyes. Seeing the pain still filling his gaze, Suhyeon parted her lips to speak.

“I’m sorry.”

Jeonghan let out a deep breath, his eyebrows knitting together. In a low voice, he said,

“…Don’t ever do something like this again.”

“Mm. I won’t.”

Suhyeon smiled faintly.

Even in her battered state, she seemed relieved, simply because the evidence against Seol Hee-nam had been recorded properly. Jeonghan, his gaze heavy with pain, looked at her in silence.
