It was true. Most of the wedding’s details had been personally decided by Chairman Do.
“You shouldn’t have overexerted yourself. Are you feeling better now?”
“Better than I was a few days ago.”
Chairman Do, as if feeling stiff, rotated his neck and let out a sigh, frowning slightly.
“I must be getting old. If I’m bedridden from something like this, I guess that’s a sign.”
“You should take better care of your health.”
“I know. But you, why don’t you listen to me and take this chance to go on your honeymoon and relax? I told you to visit that island in the Maldives.”
He easily brushed off the sharp gaze that shot his way.
“Resting at home is enough.”
A hint of dissatisfaction appeared on Chairman Do’s face.
“You’ve been going to work early and staying late at the company. Is that what you call resting?”
“Isn’t this exactly why you kept telling me to come back to Korea?”
As he spoke with a smile, Chairman Do frowned even more.
“Do you really think I called my grandson back just to bury him under piles of work? There’s a limit to everything, you know. You rascal.”
“You don’t have to worry about me.”
“…”
Clicking his tongue in disapproval, Chairman Do said,
“And the newlywed?”
“I’ll bring her with me when you’ve recovered.”
Chairman Do nodded. With his personality, he would’ve refused even if they had both come, not wanting to show his sickly state.
That’s why he had come alone, knowing this well.
“Alright. You’re busy too, so there’s no need to force yourself to make time. We’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet anyway. The company’s anniversary is coming up soon.”
“I’ll handle the preparations for the anniversary celebration. Please focus on your health, Chairman.”
“Alright, then.”
Chairman Do nodded. He seemed more at ease, likely reassured knowing there was someone trustworthy to handle such an important event.
Seeing him like that, it didn’t feel right to smile.
What would he have done if I had actually gone on the honeymoon?
He must have struggled a lot to prepare for the event with his ailing body. He was not someone who would usually show signs of illness, nor would he ever do things half-heartedly. Especially not for an important event like the anniversary celebration.
Swallowing the bitterness that felt like it was stuck in his throat, he stood up from his seat.
“Well then, take care of yourself. Get plenty of rest.”
“If I get any older, I’ll be resting all the time, so how long do you think I need to rest? I’ve got a lot of work to do, so hurry and get going.”
“I’ll come by again soon.”
After exchanging goodbyes, he left Chairman Do’s mansion and got into the car. Since Chief Joo was away due to some assignments he had given, he drove himself.

Not long after leaving the mansion, he stopped the car in an alley.
He adjusted the destination on the navigation system from the company to home. Then he started driving again.
He caught a glimpse of his face in the rearview mirror.

He was aware that coming home at this hour was unprecedented.

Was it to hold her like he had every day lately?
