Chapter 73
Katherine was a beauty with striking red hair and moist green eyes. However, due to her family’s modest standing, she struggled to find a suitable match and ultimately married the much older Baron Alonso.
Snatching the sherbet dish from Claire, Katherine spoke sharply.
“This is ridiculous. Tell me, Claire, what does that woman have that I don’t?”
“Well, uh…”
“Don’t I have a better lineage and look much smarter? I’m clearly more suited to be the young lord’s wife. So why am I stuck with an old baron while that lowly woman gets a young and handsome husband?”
Katherine glared resentfully at the young lord and his wife.
“I had no idea Sir Gracian was that handsome. I only saw him from a distance before, and I thought he had a rougher look. If I’d known he was this beautiful, I would’ve been more aggressive in pursuing him!”
Claire tried to calm her agitated friend.
“But Katherine, you’re already married…”
Katherine, however, seemed to have lost her composure entirely, gritting her teeth as she shouted.
“I refuse to be the only one unhappy!”
“K-Katherine…”

Ylfus watched with pride as Cinq, surrounded by elegant ladies, smiled happily.
‘Cinq, Cinq, you’re so adorable. Don’t worry about a thing. Your knight is here to protect you.’
Fortunately, it seemed Cinq’s debut in high society was going well.
‘Last night, I felt like my entire skin was being peeled off!’
But considering he had married a wife ten years his junior, he felt this effort was necessary.
He, too, didn’t want to look like Beauty and the Beast when standing next to her.
‘Still… I’m so sore I could cry!’
Feigning composure, Ylfus shifted awkwardly on his feet, his thick thighs twisting uncomfortably.
Most of the discomfort was tolerable, but the situation in a more intimate area was not.
The ‘Lawnmower of Spinel’ had insisted on perfection, even in unseen places. Jenna had even attempted to wax his most private parts.
But Ylfus, despite her expertise, couldn’t bear the thought of having a stranger handle that area.
“I’ll do it myself! Just let me handle it… please!”
In the end, with the help of his servant Thomas, Ylfus had to manage the delicate task himself.
Once the wax was applied, there was no turning back. He did his best, but there was a clear difference between the skilled hands of a professional and the amateur attempts of a man desperate to save his dignity.
Now, that area throbbed uncomfortably.
Shifting restlessly, Ylfus finally set down his glass of wine and said,
“My dear, I’ll step away for a moment.”
Cinq fluttered her lovely lashes and smiled brightly.
“Yes, my dear.”
‘Damn it, Cinq.’
Even amidst the lingering pain, her sweet voice calling him ‘my dear’ made him feel a different kind of discomfort as he forced himself to smile like a devoted husband.
“Excuse me.”
After saying so, he quickly headed to the restroom.
“Phew.”
After taking care of his business and resolving his discomfort, Ylfus was ready to return to the banquet.
But his path was blocked by a red-haired woman.
“Sir Gracian.”
Ylfus stopped in his tracks, taking a cautious step back to maintain distance.
“Miss, you seem to have wandered into the wrong area. This side is reserved for the men’s restroom and smoking lounge.”
At his polite explanation, the woman’s green eyes welled up with tears as she began to sniffle.
“How could you be so cruel?”
“Excuse me?”
The woman took a step closer, and Ylfus immediately matched it by stepping back.
“Are you here for the smoking lounge? Of course, you’re welcome to use it. I hold no prejudice against women who smoke.”
“Sir, why did you reject the marriage proposal with me?”
Ylfus froze.
As he paused, Katherine quickly stepped closer, her voice trembling with sadness.
“I’ve had feelings for you since I was young. I begged my father to send you proposals multiple times, but you always declined. When you joined the Holy Order, I tried to move on…”
Of course, this was all a lie. Katherine’s father had sent marriage proposals to every eligible family in an attempt to secure her a match. The Gracian family was just one among many.
But as Katherine continued spinning her tale, she convinced even herself that she had harbored deep feelings for the handsome man before her.
Tears welled in her pretty green eyes as she asked,
“What did I lack that made you reject me?”
Ylfus, his expression stiff, shook his head.
“Miss, you lack nothing. At the time, I had no intention of marrying. I believed I was called by the Lord…”
“But in the end, you married that common woman!”
