Chapter 3
Chapter 3
‘Ha. No, I’m not trying to blame him…’
Fine, it was her own stupid mistake. But when you’re in this position, showing your a*s to the guy you like, surely you’re allowed to complain about fate just a little?
“Uhh… uhhhh…”
“How did this happen, Princess Larissa? I was told you left early today.”
“I remembered I left my research notes in the workshop so I came back to get them… The palace security’s been raised to level one tonight, so it’s a whole process to go out this late… The envoys from Shan and Erindor and Baltoria are staying at the guest palace, so…”
“That’s not what I’m asking.”
“Ah, I used an identical gate spell and I think I messed up the calculations somewhere…”
“A fourth-circle theorist like yourself failed something as simple as an identical gate?”
For reference, the higher the circle number, the more skilled the mage. A fourth-circle mage was considered advanced talent, more than capable in their own right.
Either way, a failure was a failure. Larissa’s voice shrank to a crawl.
“It’s a route I always take, so I skipped the probing process…”
“There’s your cause. The tower-wide defensive formulas were adjusted today, and two new spells were installed in this workshop.”
Which meant the ether composition in the workshop had changed. Which meant it really was her own fault. No one to blame.
“What do you think is the reason I always tell you to stick to the basics? You’re lucky you were only moving to your own workshop. If this had been a large-scale portal or involved a civilian with low ether resistance, it could’ve been a serious accident.”
“I’m sorry… But.”
“I’m not interested in your excuses.”
“No. That’s not it. Could you just get me out first? You can yell at me after.”
“…”
Silence settled in. Larissa had to actively stop herself from thinking about Lukenian staring at her a*s. There was no way he’d politely turned away or closed his eyes. He wasn’t that thoughtful of a person.
More likely he was just looking at it the way you’d look at anything else. An a*s is an a*s. Like someone who sees a human specimen or a mannequin’s backside in a lab and registers it without any particular interest. He probably didn’t even process that it was a princess’s a*s. There’s a big gap between knowing a fact and grasping what it means.
And now Larissa’s massive problem was that it was, in fact, her a*s.
‘At least I’m wearing decent underwear, seriously…’
Not the old worn-out pair she usually reached for out of comfort. The kind so threadbare you could see skin through it. Not for any sexy reason. Just old. These were clean and new. She was genuinely grateful she’d lost the fight with her nanny about it.
Lukenian’s reply came a moment later.
“A fourth-circle mage should be capable of cleaning up their own failed spells.”
“If I could get out easily, do you think I’d be like this?”
“You merely failed an identical gate. Simply pull your physical phase back up to a higher dimension and project it thirty centimeters forward.”
“I can’t use my hands. Unlike you, I can’t do a phase shift with nothing but silent incantation. I’m telling you I can’t calculate the coordinates.”
“You’re doing it within your own line of sight.”
“I’m telling you I can’t. I’m not a genius. But seriously…”
Larissa made her plea, voice thick with tears.
“If you’re not going to get me out, could you at least come around to the front?”
“The door won’t open. A portion of your body and the door’s particles have been forcibly inserted into the current dimension in a mixed state from a higher dimension. How could it possibly interact normally with other objects?”
“You can do it.”
“…”
“You’re a seventh-circle spatial transformation mage.”
Lukenian fell silent again. Larissa anxiously started to fidget her feet, then realized her a*s would wriggle in front of Lukenian’s face again and forced herself still.
I’m going insane. Honestly, she was so hyperaware of Lukenian’s gaze that her backside felt like it was on fire. Her face too. I want to die, seriously… If only her nightgown hadn’t ridden up, it wouldn’t be this agonizing.
She heard Lukenian let out a small sigh. Larissa squeezed her eyes shut.
“If you can’t, could you at least step away? I’ll figure out how to get myself out somehow.”
“Am I making you uncomfortable?”
“Yes!”
