“Ah, she really liked going to the theater sometimes. She couldn’t go often, though…”

But the longer Benjamin’s speech went on, the darker Logan’s expression became. By his mother’s order, he had occasionally attended operas and plays with Anne Agnes. And every time, Logan had been thoroughly irritated. The attention of the audience had been directed more at the two of them than at the actors on stage, and it made him feel like a spectacle.

What if they walked around the shopping district together? Well, it would surely be worse, not better. It was already well known that the two of them were not particularly close, so all kinds of curious gazes would follow them.

But he had already spent their first night with Anne Agnes. And it had been an unforgettable, overwhelming night.

“I’ll be late, so you should leave early this afternoon as well.”

“Yes, understood!”

If that was the case, then he should at least show that much sincerity. For today, Logan decided he would willingly become a voluntary spectacle.

* * *

A man who changes his attitude overnight after spending just one night together? There isn’t a woman who would welcome such a man. So Logan didn’t expect Anne Agnes to be pleased to see him.

But her reaction was far worse than his pessimistic expectations. As if she truly couldn’t understand what she was hearing, Anne asked again in a dry voice,

“So the purpose of your visit is…?”

“To accompany you on an outing.”

“But I don’t have any plans to go out.”

This time, Anne looked as if she had just swallowed a mouthful of salt soup. She was exhausted to death, what outing. By showing up so suddenly, he was only making her parents worry again.

The conversation kept circling like this. Logan had begun by saying he wanted to spend time together, and Anne had replied by asking if that meant they should just sit and stare at a clock together.

He had done something pointless for someone who hadn’t expected anything from him. Logan deeply regretted it. But what was done was done. Even so, he couldn’t back down now. Suppressing the temper that kept trying to surface, Logan corrected himself.

“Then accompany me on my outing.”

Anne’s face crumpled mercilessly. Did you already forget what we did until dawn?

At that moment, her eyes met Logan’s. Anne hurriedly put on a bright, professional smile. Thinking how hard it was just to survive.

Logan closed his eyes and pressed his forehead. The road ahead felt truly bleak. To be so desperate to offer kindness to someone who didn’t even want it, he couldn’t understand what he was doing.

Even while feeling a sense of self-disgust for this ridiculous behavior, seeing Anne Agnes’s face still made him think it had been worth coming. In truth, the dull ache stirring between his legs made him want to take her to the bedroom immediately and finish what they hadn’t finished yesterday.

Anne pouted. Naturally, she didn’t understand his intentions at all. At first, she wondered if, after doing everything he had done yesterday, he had come to pressure her into breaking off the engagement again. Even after hearing him out, she simply assumed the queen must have sent him.

If the queen orders it, you obey. Life’s hard for both of us. Having reached her conclusion, Anne set down the teacup she had only pretended to sip from and sprang to her feet.

“Then I’ll go get ready.”

“Get ready for what?”

Logan asked back, not understanding. She was already dressed, and her hair was neatly combed and braided. What more preparation could she possibly need?

Anne didn’t understand either. If she went out to the shopping district in an indoor dress, she would become the subject of gossip for at least ten days. And it wouldn’t end with just her or her family being criticized, the prince accompanying her would be mocked as well. Of course, no one would dare say it to his face.

How little interest did he have to not know something so obvious? Waving her hand dismissively, Anne said,

“I’ll be right back, so please wait.”

Logan still looked dissatisfied. Even so, instead of adding anything more, he obediently picked up his teacup again. Anne looked at her suddenly compliant fiancé with a strange expression.

Did sleeping together once really change his attitude this much? For some reason, she felt empty and drained. Yesterday, they had both been carried away in the moment. She had enjoyed it too, but that didn’t mean feelings that hadn’t existed before suddenly sprang up.

Whatever orders he had received, she just wanted to get this over with and rest. Anne hurriedly left the drawing room.
