Chapter 46
Logan was at a loss for words. He had been the one who brought up breaking the engagement, claiming there was a problem on his side. Now that the problem was gone, the means to keep her by his side had disappeared as well.
Then why did Anne Agnes want to break the engagement now?
The standoff continued for a long time without an answer.
Where had everything gone wrong. Logan retraced the past. The first thing that came to mind was what he had done that night. He had held her back when she told him to stop and satisfied only his own desire. Even the next day, he hadn’t properly apologized.
“What happened that night was my fault. It’s late, but even now—”
“It’s fine. I enjoyed it too.”
Anne replied lightly, as if it meant nothing. Nothing was lost for either of them, and they could just treat it as part of their ‘responsibility’. Of course, it would have been better if he had remained a pure virgin to the end. He seemed to be giving unnecessary meaning to his first time.
At the word ‘enjoyed’, Logan unconsciously thought of the rumors. Had Anne Agnes enjoyed herself with all those men as well? In truth, the way she had acted that night hadn’t been entirely ordinary. Then perhaps even before that…
Logan’s eyes wavered like waves. Jealousy toward men he had never even seen twisted his insides. He grabbed Anne roughly by the arm.
“You must have forgotten what you said that night.”
Anne’s eyes widened like a startled rabbit’s. Her unemotional green eyes were unbearably irritating. Logan yanked her toward him. Caught off guard, Anne found herself pulled into his arms and raised her voice.
“What are you trying to do…!”
Logan gently brushed her long hair behind her ear. Then, in a low voice, he whispered near her ear.
“You have to take responsibility for me, Anne Agnes.”
Logan suddenly lifted her. Slung over his broad shoulder like a sack of flour, Anne kicked her legs.
“Are you crazy?!”
Carrying the struggling Anne, Logan glanced around. A long sofa stood near the partition. He strode over and dropped her onto it.
“Gah!”
Thrown down without warning, Anne let out a strange cry. Her skirt rode up, revealing her slender legs. Logan didn’t take his eyes off them as he removed his outer coat. It didn’t matter how many men had been between them before.
But he had no intention of letting it continue that way.
After tossing aside his jacket, Logan grasped her chin. His eyes were burning with something close to madness. Anne looked up at him in disbelief. What is this now. Has he gone crazy?
Gripping the back of the sofa with one hand, Logan slowly leaned down. Just as his handsome face came close, Anne suddenly reached out and grabbed the back of his neck.
“Ugh—!”
Logan frowned at the strength of her grip. Holding his neck, Anne stood up. Logan twisted his shoulders, trying to break free.
“Anne Agnes!”
“I’m sorry. It didn’t seem like talking would work.”
The moment she released his neck, Anne grabbed both his wrists. Crossing his arms behind his back, she subdued him easily. Logan turned his head in shock at her tremendous strength, his eyes nearly twice their usual size. Anne quickly kicked the back of his knee.
“Ugh!”
His knees buckled on their own. Anne was a little surprised herself. She had only tried what she had seen before, but wasn’t that executed a little too perfectly?
But now she didn’t know what to do next. Holding him firmly restrained, Anne froze. She had acted again without thinking. She should have thought before acting. Honestly, who told him to suddenly lunge at her like that.
Forced to his knees like a captive, Logan shouted,
“Let go! What are you doing, let go!”
“Please calm down first. When you calm down, tell me. Then I’ll let you go.”
“Are you insane?”
In the middle of the absurd standoff, the door suddenly burst open. Russell Avery shouted, his voice out of breath.
“Your Highness, you cannot—!”
But the scene before him was somewhat different from what he had expected. He had heard that the prince had barged into his daughter’s room like a brute while she was undressing, but what he saw instead was a small woman completely subduing a man twice her size.
He had been worried about the wrong person. No matter how he looked at it, the victor was his daughter, Anne Agnes. Russell’s mind moved quickly. The important thing was to make sure no one else saw this. He immediately bowed politely.
“My apologies.”
Bang!
The door closed again. Anne let out a sigh. I’m going to get scolded later.
Logan’s face was bright red. It was shocking enough to be overpowered by a woman, but someone else had even seen it.
Completely losing his fighting spirit, he spoke in a small, almost pleading voice.
“I’ve calmed down now, so let me go, Anne Agnes…”
