“That’s a strange question. Don’t you already know my name?”

“Oh, did you tell me your name before?”

Fay found it hard to believe and tried to deny reality. Alnazir simply stared at her and replied firmly,

“I never told you. In fact, I’ve been wondering how you knew my name.”

“Haha… is that so~”

Fay laughed, but sweat was pouring down her back.

He was the octopus. The creature who made her taste death, who grinned at her suffering, then flashed terrifying spines as if threatening to tear her apart, who picked her up and toyed with her—that monster!

How had she not realized? Now that she looked, those gold eyes were exactly the same, and even his voice sounded familiar.

Tentacles. Yes, there were no tentacles in sight! Of course she didn’t recognize him without it. He was hiding those horrible killing appendages and pretending to be human!

“Since we’re on the subject, call it out one more time.”

“W-Wh-What? What do you mean?”

Fay stuttered so badly she could barely speak. The memory of the pain she’d felt just before dying still ached in her heart, and her mouth was dry.

She definitely didn’t want to go through that again. People always said death brought peace, but what she experienced was different. It had been agonizing right up to the end, and even when she was revived, she was left dazed and hurting.

“My name. Say my name.”

“Oh, right, yo-your name. Of course I know it!”

Fay forced a weak smile.

I don’t know! She had no idea where the book was, and she’d stumbled through his name by pure chance—there was no way she could remember what she’d said.

She wanted to cry, but Alnazir just kept looking at her expectantly, watching her lips.

She had to say something. If she didn’t, he might just flash that creepy grin and try to kill her again or bring out those tentacles!

Fay’s brain spun furiously. If she wanted to survive, she needed to at least remember the first word…

“Alnazir…?”

The uncertainty made her voice rise at the end. Alnazir’s eyebrows arched in response.

But since nothing happened, maybe she got it right.

“Alnazir… Tesiano!”

Finally, the next part came to her. She shouted it with relief, and Alnazir gave a tiny nod.

But that was as far as she could go. She simply couldn’t remember the rest.

“Keep going.”

Oh no. She was out of ideas, and the monster-octopus-man was clearly waiting for her to finish his entire name. Cold sweat broke out on Fay’s forehead.

She had to come up with something. Gasping for breath and rolling her eyes, Fay suddenly remembered a trick she’d used as a child in emergencies. A last-ditch strategy only for real trouble.

“M-My stomach… My stomach suddenly hurts so much…!”

She grabbed her belly and collapsed forward, faking the most pitiful, dramatic pain she could muster.

“Ow! It hurts so much! I must have eaten something bad for breakfast. I need to get out of here right now!”

She made a huge fuss, crawling on all fours as she edged away. The summoning circle wasn’t far. If she could reach it before he caught on, she could sever the connection and send the octopus back to his world.

Alnazir just watched her crawl away, his gaze lingering on her backside.

Meanwhile, Fay managed to find the intact summoning circle. Thankfully, she still had a chance to send the octopus back. Now was her chance, before he realized what she was doing.

Fay raised her arm to wipe away the lines—but hesitated.

If she sent him back, would she ever get another opportunity like this? The odds of another invoked responding to her mangled pronunciation were probably even lower than Virelda coming to her in tears to make up.

“Oh, my stomach hurts so much…”

Besides, she knew from experience just how powerful he was. Why had she come to the tower in the first place? Despite the warnings, despite knowing the risks, she had performed the summoning for one reason:

To call an invoked that could help win the war. To protect Aldehallow.

And now, after all that, was she really going to send this summoned being away with her own hands?

Maybe she wouldn’t be able to control him and it would end in disaster. But if she sent him away after all this trouble, Zynie would nag her endlessly, and Virelda would look at her with cold contempt.

You’re useless. You only get in the way. Just stay out of this.

They’d both said such harsh things before, but if she could actually bring an invoked, maybe they’d finally recognize her effort. Maybe she could even make up with them.

The alternative was terrifying, but…

Fay knew it was risky.

But she just couldn’t erase the summoning circle.
