Chapter 39
Don’t be ridiculous. Did she really think a mere human could be forgiven for deceiving a ruler—just by bringing the best bathtub she could find?
Alnazir tried to stay angry. He wasn’t so easy to appease that he’d forgive everything for a simple bathtub. He should be furious—on the verge of exploding.
But as soon as he stood before Fay, her eyes shining with hope, his rage melted away like a lie.
“Damn it…”
He muttered a low curse. Against his will, he started to find her… endearing. He just couldn’t bring himself to say, “I’ll destroy you and everything you love.”
“Forgiveness…”
Alnazir, the great ruler. The terror of all living things.
He’d lived for ages, and not once had he ever truly forgiven anyone. No one had ever dared ask for his forgiveness.
And, honestly, he’d never seen a reason to offer it. Even if someone had hoped for mercy, their wishes had never reached him.
His reign had always been about destruction and fear—nothing else.
“Alnazir, I’m sorry it took me so long to keep my promise to make you a proper place to rest.”
Well. With a face as sweet as hers begging for mercy, how could he refuse? There was a certain affection between them, after all. Maybe… just this once.
“…Fine. I’ll forgive you.”
Maybe the reason he’d never shown mercy before was that no one ever asked him for it?
Who knew it could be this easy to forgive?
“Maybe I just never had the chance before… Maybe I’m actually a merciful ruler after all.”
Alnazir murmured as he pulled Fay into a hug. He’d already forgotten why he’d gotten so angry in the first place—it definitely wasn’t about the bathtub anymore.

With the new bathtub, Alnazir no longer needed to lounge around on the bed. It was much better than the old one. He could stretch out his legs, and the width was decent, too.
Still, he wasn’t completely satisfied. Compared to the sea, which he used as a bed in the past, this was still painfully small. Was that why he felt so empty?
“It’s not like a human could bring me the whole ocean anyway. That’s just impossible.”
He told himself, trying to accept things. But the feeling of emptiness just wouldn’t go away.
Emptiness. That was it. Especially at his side—he felt cold, even though the bathwater was magically heated as hot as he liked.
Just then, he heard Fay’s footsteps in the living room.
“Fay.”
He called, and the bathroom door opened almost immediately. Fay peeked in with just her eyes visible.
“Did you just say something?”
“I haven’t said anything yet. I just called for you.”
“What did you call me?”
“Fay.”
She opened the door a bit more, her face peeking out in a playful grin.
“You know, that’s the first time you’ve actually called me ‘Fay.’ You always just said ‘witch, witch’ before.”
She even mimicked his usually flat expression and monotone, which just made her look annoyingly smug.
When did I ever act like that? Annoyed, he scowled and motioned her over.
Fay hurried over, and as she leaned down to meet his eyes, she caught a glimpse of his naked body through the clear water and quickly looked away, blushing.
“Do you, uh, need something?”
She kept her eyes fixed on the window or a shelf, anywhere but him.
Alnazir stared at the line of her jaw, and suddenly realized what was missing from his bath.
“Fay, you really did get me a great tub.”
“That’s what you wanted to tell me? I was expecting something else.”
She laughed, relaxing a little.
“It almost feels wrong to keep such a nice place to myself.”
“If you like it, then I’m happy—ah!”
She hadn’t been watching him, so she was startled when his wet hand slipped up her wrist. The sudden contact sent a shiver through her, and she couldn’t help but let out a soft moan.
