Chapter 151
“Grand Duchess, enjoying the show?”
Looking down at her as she gracefully lifted her skirts and offered a beautiful curtsy upon noticing him, Myers flashed a crooked grin. It was a reaction born of ignorance, he had no idea what had actually caused the fight.
The incident had begun right here in the middle of the training grounds about an hour earlier.
One of the knights in the midst of training had noticed the Grand Duchess passing by and stared at her for more than three seconds. That alone had been enough for the Grand Duke to pick a fight with them.
From the Grand Duke, Kuinan’s perspective, the knights had started it. It wasn’t just one man—over half of them had lingered on her for nearly two seconds each. Drawn unconsciously by the languid, seductive aura she exuded, they had looked… and the monster had erupted in fury as though they had committed high treason.
“Don’t make this into something big.”
When he strode toward the group of dark-clad men, Sylvia had murmured that advice under her breath. But of course, it had meant absolutely nothing to him.
Knowing full well he was impossible to stop, she had simply watched from the sidelines like someone observing a fire across the river. After about ten minutes of escalating chaos, she had finally summoned the chamberlain and sent him to fetch the Emperor. At least she had fulfilled the bare minimum of her duty.
She answered the Emperor’s grin with polite composure.
“My apologies. I did try to stop him, but he simply wouldn’t listen… I have no idea why he suddenly grew so angry.”
The Emperor favored the Grand Duke. He would never punish him over a disturbance like this. Besides, his own imperial guard shared part of the blame. Why accept the challenge the moment it was issued?
After all, the Grand Duke was a fellow knight fighting the same enemies as they did.
“Hmm… I think I know why.”
Myers responded lightly to her confession. As expected, he did not seem angry at all. Though his brow gradually furrowed as the outnumbered Grand Duke began felling the guards one by one, he still looked amused.
As he watched the situation gleefully, the Grand Duke’s gaze flicked toward them.
The moment the Emperor met those blazing blue eyes, he flinched.
The Grand Duke stared at him with murderous intensity, as if the mere sight of the Emperor standing close to the Grand Duchess drove him mad. It was a look that could kill.
‘As I thought…’
The knights must have made the mistake of looking at the wrong woman.
Myers understood completely. Lately, the Grand Duchess had been radiating an even stronger, almost hypnotic sensuality—an allure no man could resist. If anyone was at fault, it was her for giving off such a presence; the men drawn in by it were hardly to blame.
Having arrived at that convenient conclusion and secretly nurturing his own growing desire for her, Myers made no move to intervene even when members of his guard rushed the Grand Duke from behind.
He could have stopped it. But he wanted to see the man’s true strength.
The Grand Duke had always been a formidable knight, before and after losing his memories. How powerful would he be in a raw, unrestrained fight? The Emperor watched with keen anticipation.
Even as his arm was seized, the Grand Duke never looked away from the Emperor.
It seemed, for a moment, that he might lose.
The Grand Duke jerked the captured arm upward.
The knight clinging to it was yanked into the air along with it. In the next instant, the Grand Duke hurled the man away. With a thunderous crash, the knight slammed into the ground and rolled across the dirt.
“Urgh…!”
After a strangled sound, the man collapsed limp, unconscious from unbearable pain and accumulated damage.
Until seconds ago, the fight had seemed evenly matched. Now the tide had turned in an instant. In truth, the Grand Duke had shown no reaction even when struck in the face or chest earlier—perhaps he had never been fighting seriously at all.
Having knocked out one of the elite guards, he muttered to himself.
“That makes three left.”
Still without a single scratch, the Grand Duke swept his gaze over the remaining men, who stared back in terror. Only now did he take his eyes away from the Emperor, though his attention remained fixated on the pair of them.
He was visibly restraining himself from turning back again, forcibly holding his head forward.
