Since having an honest conversation with her husband, much of Sylvia’s suspicion and hostility toward him had faded.

That night, he had been remarkably candid. She felt he hadn’t lied once.

What Sylvia still didn’t grasp was just how cunning and deceitful the monster Kuinan truly was. From start to finish, Kuinan had spun nothing but lies to her, mixing in only a small portion of truth.

“Actually, I remember what happened in the swamp.”

With that opening, Kuinan smoothly recounted the story of him meeting Lancart in the swamp to Sylvia.

He fabricated everything except for the facts that Lancart had encountered a monster and suffered terrible ordeals after being dragged away. By doing so, he earned Sylvia’s sympathy and grudgingly helped her understand the reasons behind his strange s****l behaviors.

Though she now disliked him deeply, her earlier fondness made it easy for Sylvia to believe his lies. Kuinan’s three centuries of experience greatly contributed to crafting a believable tale. Even he thought he’d woven a convincing story.

“It was a huge monster. Quite handsome for a monster, too.”

When describing the monster Lancart met—which was actually Kuinan himself—he unwittingly defended his own appearance. Except for a brief moment when Sylvia gave him a suspicious glance, he completely fooled his innocent wife.

“And very strong. The entire knight order was captured by it, and afterward—”

The monster had tortured the knights, breaking their limbs. Lancart himself suffered fatal wounds and was forcibly brainwashed—not quite brainwashed, but close.

Kuinan couldn’t explain the gruesome details of the brainwashing, but the result was that Lancart’s mind was poisoned by the monster’s venom, partially turning him into a half-monster. He had also lost most of his memories.

He didn’t remember his own name, title, wife, or even what his mother looked like.

He forgot much of his etiquette, language, and even his tastes and s****l preferences had changed. He struggled alone, agonizing over these changes, when his wife would seduce him every night, insisting on having a child.

Once their bodies mingled, he couldn’t resist the compulsions implanted by the monster and committed all manner of cruel acts.

After this rough explanation, Sylvia reluctantly nodded in understanding. Just then, the lying monster offered a timely, seemingly sincere apology.

“I’m sorry. I won’t do it again.”

Since more than half her body had already been altered, Kuinan only needed one chance. Then she would willingly come to him. Already having a perfect plan in mind, Kuinan stared silently at his sleeping wife’s face for dozens of minutes.

Beneath her thin eyelids, her pupils trembled constantly—she must have been dreaming. He wished he could open her skull and examine exactly what she was dreaming. Although opening a skull doesn’t mean reading thoughts, the monster was helplessly tormented by the sadistic urge boiling inside him.

About an hour later, when Sylvia woke up a letter arrived at the castle.

As soon as the steward delivered the letter, Sylvia jumped up in place. Lancart was quite surprised to see her so joyful—she had never reacted so excitedly before.

Carefully breaking the wax seal, she pulled out the letter inside as if it were a precious heirloom.

“What is it?”

“Just a moment—I want to read this quickly…”

Blushing like a girl receiving her first love letter, Sylvia amazed the monster, who, despite being half-enchanted by magic, could still be so shy.

Curious if it was truly a love letter, the monster peered at the text with heavy-lidded eyes. As soon as he read the first line, his excitement faded.

‘…What is this.’

[Dear Sylvia,]

[Your loving elder sister, Fiona.]

Growing bored, Kuinan clasped his hands behind his head and sprawled out on the rug floor. Sylvia glanced at him but was too absorbed in reading the letter to scold him.

[It’s been a while, my sister. Are you doing well at the duke’s castle?

It’s so far from the capital that even if I wanted to visit, the situation still isn’t right.

Our parents are well, and I’m doing fine too. I recently finally became a full knight from an apprentice.]
