Chapter 3
“Huh, oh my, well now… Grand Duke, you’re back early?”
At once, the n****e he had been sucking noisily inside his mouth escaped. The maid fled through a side door without even grabbing her panties, and the remaining Podling, Gustav, stood there awkwardly with his pants half off and laughed sheepishly.
Max charged at him. In one move, he seized the dwarf by his low-set nape, dragged him over, and tried to throw him out the spire window. It absolutely was not because he was in a foul mood over the bastard’s e***t c**k, which was dripping p***y juice. Absolutely not.
“Aaaagh! I was wrong, I was wrong, my lord!”
At this rate, he was about to fall headfirst into the mud and break his neck. Hanging upside down outside the window frame with the blood rushing to his head, Gustav shrieked in fright. He must have been desperate, because even the speech habits from his days as a slave came bursting out.
He was a dwarf Podling whom Max had rescued from pirates over ten years ago. Since the man was slick and clever, Max had brought him back and made him part of his staff, but apart from his rock-solid loyalty, he was also a troublesome bastard with a nasty disposition and a weakness for women.
Max left even the man’s a*s hanging over the window frame and sneered.
“Really? You were wrong?”
“Yes, yeees, I’ve committed a sin worthy of death! I’ll clean this place spotless, so please…!
I’ll wipe it down with a rag boiled twice over so not a single trace of s***n remains! I’ll never bring a woman into the sacred office again! If I break my promise, I’ll hang myself with my own two feet, so please forgive me…!
Gustav flailed, his c**k shriveling up, and Max ground his teeth again. Unexpectedly, however, he did not rebuke him for having s*x during working hours.
There was a different reason he was pissed.
“A letter has just arrived from the Imperial Crown Prince.”
“…!”
“The dragon hunt has been denied again. Just how did you write the request? Hmm?”
“Pardon? Ah, no… that wasn’t my fault…”
The black dragon hunt in the birch forest.
This was the dearest wish of Maximilian, the Warden Duke who had been cursed by a dragon.
However, a dragon hunt was by no means a simple matter. About two hundred years ago, humanity and the dragon race, who had been in fierce conflict, entered into the Great Accord. They were not to kill each other carelessly. Therefore, in order to kill a dragon, a legitimate cause was absolutely necessary. For this reason, Gustav had even brought up an utterly childish lie, claiming that ‘the dragon’s snoring is causing the people of the territory to suffer from insomnia,’ and requested permission for the hunt, but it seemed the request had been rejected again, just as expected.
Still, it was unfair to be blamed for everything alone. When Gustav grumbled, Max snorted.
“Oh, really? Then is it my fault?”
“That is, well… damn it, yes! It’s your fault, Lord Max! I mean, why did you have to report the Imperial Crown Prince’s mistress for tax evasion… aagh!!”
Gustav squeezed his eyes shut and blurted it out.
Because it was true. Unless the dragon committed a massacre or something, there was no way permission for a dragon hunt would ever be granted!
And who was the person in charge of this important matter? None other than Cedric, the Imperial Crown Prince of the Ardena Empire. The problem was that the relationship between this prince, who was acting as regent in place of the emperor afflicted with dementia, and Max, the Warden Duke, was the absolute worst. They were sworn enemies, always watching for a chance to screw each other over somehow, and recently, Max had just landed a blow against the Imperial Crown Prince.
He had discovered that one of the prince’s mistresses had been spreading talk about his curse, and out of spite, he had informed on her for tax evasion and concealment of imperial assets. How could the prince, who had suddenly sent his lover to prison, possibly help Max achieve his dearest wish?
“Tsk.”
Anyway, just as Gustav had braced himself to be dropped headfirst and splattered for the crime of speaking the truth, Max clicked his tongue audibly, yanked him up roughly, and threw him down. Even when the adviser immediately scrambled to find his pants and put them on, whining exaggeratedly, ‘Oh goodness gracious, this dwarf is dying,’ Max didn’t even pretend to hear him.
A short while later, Gustav stood before Max, who was sitting crookedly in his office chair, and wiped off his cold sweat. Then he carefully gauged Max’s mood. The fact that his superior had come home this early felt ominous.
“So, well… how did today’s marriage proposal go?”
“Hmph.”
“Good heavens. You were rejected again? Even by a nun?”
After being so thoroughly rejected by Lady Mandel last time, Max changed his strategy for finding a bride. Having realized the devastating truth that he had been rejected repeatedly because of the matter of s*x, he had started searching for candidates who seemed as if they would have no interest in s*x at all. As a result, his recent marriage proposal targets had all been women devoted to religion, but even they kept rejecting Max time after time.
