Chapter 111
A swarm of monsters poured out of the Maw. There were so many that even Euclid could never handle them alone. Terrifying numbers of monsters were literally spilling out.
“Your Highness the First Prince!”
“Your Highness!”
The Holy Knights, having noticed the Maw opening in the sky, gathered quickly. They drew their swords and took formation facing the Maw.
Seeing his knights assemble, Euclid dealt the finishing blow to the monster he had been fighting. Then he casually flicked the black blood from his blade and issued an order.
“Protect Sylaria.”
At his command, the Holy Knights surrounded Sylaria at once. Morris, who had positioned himself closest to her, whispered softly.
“Don’t worry. His Highness will handle it.”
Sylaria nodded to Morris, yet her fear did not subside. Her heart kept pounding.
‘There’s too many.’
It had been troublesome when no monsters appeared, but this was excessive in the opposite direction.
The Maw was too large.
Sylaria had never seen a Maw in person. But she knew one this enormous was rare. The Maw that appeared in the palace had released only three or four monsters. This one easily seemed likely to release dozens.
‘Even Euclid won’t be able to handle this alone.’
Sylaria bit her lip. Her whole body grew cold from anxiety. Divine power could fight a Maw, but this number was too much for one person.
“Everyone fall back.”
But Euclid was unwavering. As monsters from the Maw began landing one by one, he stepped forward without a trace of fear.
Sylaria followed Morris backward, yet she couldn’t take her eyes off him. And the next moment, her violet eyes widened.
‘Divine power…’
A powerful red light leaked from Euclid’s body. His blond hair looked like a sun burning in the sunset. When he raised his hand, his divine power gathered into the shape of an orb.
And then.
The red orb was hurled directly toward the Maw.
The moment the orb infused with divine power entered, the Maw convulsed and then collapsed inward, becoming a thin black line.
It was a strange sight.
The sky looked like rippling fabric. The trembling sky made the black line fade, then disappear completely.
The Maw had vanished.
“This should be enough to earn points.”
Euclid murmured to himself and gathered divine power again. This time he threw the red orb at the monsters on the ground.
The divine power landed in front of them and spread instantly like a red mist. Monsters caught within its range collapsed one after another with no strength left. Each time one of the large beasts fell, dust rose and the ground shook with heavy thuds.
Sylaria watched in stunned silence as the vibrations traveled through the ground and the monsters died.
‘How is this possible…?’
One monster alone could wipe out a small village. Their destructive power was enormous. Yet dozens of such monsters were falling helplessly.
Even seeing it with her own eyes, she could hardly believe it. If anyone had claimed such a thing happened, she would have dismissed it as a lie. It was that unbelievable.
And at the same time, it was awe-inspiring.
“Keugh…!”
Right after the last remaining monster fell, Euclid’s firm upper body tilted forward. Sylaria gasped and rushed toward him. By the time she reached his side, he was closing his eyes with a faint smile.
“Euclid!”
Sylaria urgently caught his collapsing body. She wanted to help him down from his horse, but supporting a man so much larger than herself was already overwhelming. She cried out desperately to Morris.
“Morris, help me. I need to purify him!”
“Yes!”
Morris and the Holy Knights gathered to help bring Euclid down. They hurriedly unpacked their supplies and began setting up a temporary tent as quickly as possible. While they worked, Sylaria held Euclid in her arms, her fingertips trembling.
Euclid’s heartbeat was far too slow. It felt as if it might stop completely at any moment.
