Chapter 126
“H-How are you… here…”
Sylaria spoke in a voice on the verge of breaking, and Grizelle answered cheerfully.
“I brought him in saying he was my father. I received just a tiny bit of help from Her Majesty the Empress to get him out of prison.”
Sylaria bit her lips tightly. Wilder had already walked right up to her, and the stench of strong alcohol and rot radiated from him.
“I told her to get me out. I told her just to get me out of the underground prison.”
“AHH!”
Wilder grabbed a fistful of Sylaria’s hair. He yanked so hard it felt as though her scalp would tear, shaking her violently.
“Your father wrote you letter after letter. And you, you wretch. You pretend you do not know your father in prison so you can escape your miserable fate. A girl like you should die.”
“Of course, sir. You wouldn’t believe how sly Syllie is. She received all your letters and ignored them on purpose. I guarantee it.”
“Heh, you must be right. It’s lucky this brat has a friend like you, Grizelle. If it wasn’t for you, I would have rotted in prison for the rest of my life.”
“It must hurt you terribly, sir, after raising a child who’s not even your blood with such care, only for her to turn out like this. Please punish her thoroughly. It would be even better if you killed her. Don’t worry about what comes after. Her Majesty the Empress is behind me.”
“That is the best thing I have heard.”
“Haagh!”
At Grizelle’s goading, Wilder wrapped his hand around Sylaria’s throat. His thick hand closed over her slender neck and lifted her into the air. Her feet rose off the floor, leaving her dangling from his grip.
“Agh, ack…!”
Sylaria grabbed Wilder’s fingers with all the strength she had. But no matter how desperately she pulled and tore at them, he didn’t budge. Her face reddened violently as breathing became difficult.
“Hrk, ugh!”
As Sylaria kicked and struggled, Grizelle giggled from behind, watching with excited eyes.
“Syllie, why did you get ahead of yourself? Did you think I wouldn’t notice how you always wore the First Prince’s magic-stone necklace whenever you met me? You thought you could brag that the First Prince cared about you. That you were different from me. You thought I wouldn’t know?”
“Aaagh, guh!”
Sylaria’s eyes rolled back, and her struggling grew more frantic. Not only her face but her ears, her neck, even the upper chest showing above her dress flushed bright red.
“Hahahaha!”
Wilder looked up at Sylaria with crazed eyes, tightening his grip even more. Then at some point, Sylaria’s arms, which had been hanging from his hand, suddenly dropped limply. Her face, which had been gasping painfully, drooped lifelessly. Like a puppet with its strings cut, her body sagged heavily, and Wilder clicked his tongue, tossing her aside.
“What a joke. Why is it so easy?”
“Is she dead?”
Grizelle’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Sylaria sprawled on the floor. Her hair, which had been pulled by Wilder, was disheveled, and only her slightly parted lips were barely visible.
“Do you need to ask. Grizelle, I need more alcohol. Where is the alcohol. Alcohol!”
“Go outside and ask anyone.”
Grizelle spoke while keeping her eyes fixed on Sylaria. Wilder spat on the floor and kicked the large door. The same door that hadn’t budged even when Sylaria had pounded and shaken it with all her strength swung open instantly at his kick.
“He’s going to break the door at this rate.”
Grizelle grumbled as she watched Wilder stomp out. His heavy footsteps faded, and wrinkles formed between her brows.
But soon, she turned her head with a delighted expression. Trembling with excitement, she approached Sylaria’s body.
“Pfft, hehehe, and you always acted so high and mighty.”
Grizelle happily nudged Sylaria’s body with her foot. The prone body flipped over easily with a slight push.
“Ah, that feels good. I should have done this sooner. Arendtert really is amazing. How did he even think of such a plan?”
Grizelle hummed a tune. When Wilder’s footsteps could no longer be heard at all, she bent down. Then, reaching out toward the magic-stone pendant hanging around Sylaria’s neck.
Sylaria’s eyes snapped open.
