Chapter 128
“What trick is it this time.”
“What did I even do—”
“She brought my stepfather and tried to have him kill me.”
Even now, Sylaria cut off Grizelle’s attempt to deny everything and explained. Euclid raised one eyebrow and asked,
“That stepfather. The drunk and gambling addict you mentioned?”
Sylaria quietly nodded. Euclid looked down at Grizelle and let out a disbelieving laugh.
“So that’s why you’ve been so quiet lately. Must have been busy scheming.”
“……”
With a blade pressed to her throat, Grizelle couldn’t say a word. She only bit her lip, glaring at Sylaria with a face full of resentment. Even now that everything had gone this far, she still seemed bitter that she hadn’t managed to kill Sylaria.
“You said Aren cooked this up? You must have gotten real close with him. Congrats.”
Sylaria sneered at her. Grizelle’s face twisted instantly. Sylaria stood and looked down at her.
“I can’t just waste the chance you handed me. This time Aren really will be dethroned. Trying to kill the future Crown Princess. I will never let this go.”
“…Heh.”
At Sylaria’s taunt, Grizelle let out a sinister laugh. Shaking even her shoulders as she laughed, she looked up at Sylaria and said,
“And what will you do if you don’t let it go?”
“What?”
“You think you’ve won again, don’t you? You, basking in your fiancé’s love. You, always so superior. You think you’ve beaten me again, don’t you? Feeling real good about it?”
Grizelle scrunched her eyes with a mocking sneer. Then she screamed, voice twisted with spite.
“Go ahead and kill me! You think you can keep that Crown Prince seat after murdering an innocent person?”
“You’re spouting nonsense again—”
“Oh, wait. Do you think you’re even going to walk out of here alive?”
The moment Grizelle finished speaking, the air in the room turned icy. Even though logs burned in the fireplace, chills ran down every inch of Sylaria’s skin.
‘What…?’
Sylaria and Euclid looked at each other at the same time. Their eyes met midair, and Grizelle’s eerie laughter echoed through the room.
“Ahahahahaha!”
She laughed like someone deranged, throwing her head back. Staring upward, her face twisted grotesquely.
Following her gaze without thinking, Sylaria looked up at the ceiling, and her pupils quivered violently.
‘That’s a Maw.’
A Maw was forming on the high ceiling of the bedroom. It had only ever appeared outside. How could it suddenly open here? Was that even possible?
“How is that appearing here…”
Baffled by the unnatural phenomenon, Sylaria looked at Euclid. He seemed just as shocked as she was.
“Aha— Hahaha!”
Grizelle laughed with sheer delight at their panic. But Euclid quickly regained composure and focused on the Maw.
Whether fortunate or unfortunate, the Maw forming above them was a very small one. Barely wide enough for a single person to slip through. Euclid tilted his chin as he assessed it.
A Maw was something to fear only in the past. As long as a Purifier was present, a Maw could be erased at any time.
Euclid calmly gathered his divine power. Red light glowed across his body. Once he gathered enough, he looked upward, and the light bursting from him shot straight into the Maw.
The Maw swallowed the red light, churned, and then vanished as if it had never existed. When Euclid erased it cleanly, Grizelle muttered blankly,
“No way…”
She murmured like someone whose spirit had left her body, then frowned. Soon after, one corner of her lips curled upward. The ominous smile gave Sylaria a terrible feeling.
‘What is she plotting now?’
Sylaria was about to press her further. Whatever it was Grizelle had planned, she intended to stop it before it unfolded. She opened her mouth—
And Euclid shouted in horror.
“SYLARIA!”
At his scream, Sylaria snapped her head around and her eyes widened. She staggered back in shock at what she saw before her.
Right in front of her face, directly across from her, another new Maw was beginning to form.
