“Expensive… booze hits different… h-hicc!”

Watching Wilder babble nonsense while held by the guards, Arendtert frowned. With a dismissive wave, he said, as though the man wasn’t even worth acknowledging.

“How dare he sneak into the Imperial Palace and steal. Insane bastard. Take him away and kill him.”

“Yes, Your Highness!”

The guards bowed to the prince and dragged Wilder away. The man who had drenched Sylaria’s childhood in suffering met an end so pathetic it was almost hollow.

Perhaps it was only fitting. A grand finale would have been a luxury for Wilder.

A worthless, miserable man deserved a pitiful demise. A creature who lived leeching off others like a parasite ought to die despised and forgotten.

“How did trash like that even get into my palace?”

Arendtert muttered in disbelief after ordering Wilder’s execution. He swept back his neatly arranged hair, then looked toward Grizelle. Staring at her with pure disgust, he opened his mouth.

“Don’t tell me you brought him in? I took pity on your useless life and kept you here, and you drag in some guttersnipe off the street?”

“What are you talking about?”

Grizelle sprang to her feet, bewildered. She turned toward Cressida, who stood beside Arendtert with her arms folded, and cried out.

“Your Majesty, why are you pretending not to know? You and Aren were the ones who got him out of prison!”

“…Me?”

Cressida pointed at herself as if hearing utter nonsense. When Grizelle nodded vigorously, she let out a scoff of disbelief.

“Are you delusional? Why would I pull a vagrant like that out of prison? How dare you? Is this how you see me? You dare insult the Empress of the Davoud Empire?”

“Your Majesty…?”

Grizelle stared blankly at Cressida’s scolding. Her mouth opened and closed soundlessly, unable to form words. Cressida clicked her tongue.

“And this is why one must choose their people carefully.”

At the Empress’s derision, Grizelle quietly gripped her skirt. Only now did she realize Arendtert and Cressida had decided to discard her, and her body trembled with betrayal.

She had spent her whole life betraying others, but she had never once experienced betrayal herself. Tears welled in her eyes.

“How… How could you do this to me…?”

“What are you, that we should care?”

Arendtert snorted, crushing what remained of her pride. Leaving the devastated Grizelle behind, he looked to Euclid and Sylaria.

“As for you, esteemed Crown Prince his consort, what brings you here?”

“…His Highness’s fiancée deceived and lured me here.”

Sylaria stared directly at Arendtert as she spoke. He gave her a baffled look.

“Sylaria, you wouldn’t be stupid enough to come just because Grizelle asked. What did she say?”

“She told me she miscarried, but before that someone reported her pregnancy to me. Of course I came when she appeared in a panic. Would I have bothered otherwise?”

“Pregnant?”

Arendtert shouted, eyes wide. His reaction was openly derisive, as though the idea of Grizelle being pregnant was absurd.

“Grizelle Willoughby? Pregnant?”

He nearly yelled it out of incredulousness. At the mention of pregnancy, even Cressida let out a small laugh.

Humiliated by their blatant mockery, Grizelle’s face flushed hot. Sylaria narrowed her eyes at Arendtert. Whatever else, Grizelle was still his person. Yet he didn’t spare even a moment’s thought for her dignity. Truly, it was just like him.

Engaged only because he’d been forced into it, yes, but publicly, Grizelle was still his fiancée. Even so, Arendtert had always dismissed her. He never hesitated to shame her in front of countless witnesses.

“How naïve you are, Sylaria. Did you really believe such nonsense?”

“Of course not. If Her Majesty’s attendant hadn’t delivered the message herself, I wouldn’t have listened.”

“My attendant?”

Cressida, who had been quietly observing, blinked. Sylaria calmly nodded.

“Her Majesty’s favored lady-in-waiting, Lady Aria, brought me here.”

“Now that you mention it, Aria isn’t here. Where is she? Find her at once.”

Cressida ordered the attendants. After sending them out, she turned back to Sylaria with a composed expression.

Why the hell is she being so timid?! It’s clear they had a hand in it. She should be honest and tell them to stop pretending, that their acting doesn’t work.

LOL Since the beginning security is nonexistent. Anyone can come into the palaces and now anyone can walk out of prisons.

Grizzly was transforming into a maw just a chapter ago. Does closing the maw suddenly revert time? I thought FL was injured as well...
Why are the two being allowed so much free reign even now?! This level of doormat behavior is ridiculous 😒
