Screams burst from every direction, and Euclid dashed out of the room without hesitation. Even as he went to confront the Maw, Arendtert only laughed as if it were someone else’s problem.

“You’re a Holy Knight too. Why are you sitting here like this?”

“I’m under reflection. Did you forget?”

“The palace is in chaos and you’re going to evade responsibility like that?”

Sylaria snapped. She glared at him and pointed toward the window. The scene reflected in the wide glass looked no different from a painting of hell.

Countless Maws were opening in the sky, and monsters poured down like rain. Just looking at it made her skin crawl.

“If the palace is like this, then outside is worse. Go out there and save the people. Now!”

“Why should I?”

Arendtert replied with a lazy grin. Watching the Holy Knights fighting outside as though it were entertainment, he said,

“You called me useless before. And now you want me to rush into danger?”

“So now you won’t even do your duty as a prince?”

“No. I’m not going because I am doing my duty as a prince.”

Arendtert smirked, his eyes bright. He leaned back on the sofa and drank wine. The dark red liquid rippled in the glass like human blood.

“If my dear brother dies in battle, someone needs to inherit the throne, right? Better to stay alive for the sake of the crown than rush out there and die like a fool.”

“……Ah.”

Sylaria let out a hollow laugh. So he meant that he was hiding safely so he could become Crown Prince if Euclid died. She had known he was trash, but the more she learned, the more creatively infuriating he became.

“Sillie, come have a drink. Who knows? If you get on my good side, maybe I’ll give you a tiny room someday.”

Sylaria quietly approached him as he poured wine into an empty glass. She accepted the glass he handed her. When she lifted it without resistance, Arendtert’s eyes brightened with anticipation.

“Well, what can I say. The more I see you, the more I realize you’re a whole new kind of person, Arendtert.”

“You only just figured that out?”

“Yes. I really should have known sooner.”

With that, Sylaria tipped the wine over his head.

The blood-red liquid drenched his crimson hair, dripping down his pale face in thick streams. Arendtert stared blankly for a moment before realizing what happened, and his face twisted with rage.

“Are you insane?!”

“My hand slipped.”

Sylaria replied with complete nonchalance. She really should have done this earlier when she wanted to. Thinking had only delayed her decision. Seeing him soaked in wine eased her heart just a little.

“Someone! Is no one there?”

Arendtert shouted furiously. But because all the attendants had fled from the sudden appearance of so many Maws, his call echoed uselessly.

“Damn it!”

He wiped his sticky face with a handkerchief and stood. The next moment, his large hand grabbed Sylaria by the collar.

“Are you that desperate to die?”

“I’m the Crown Prince’s Purifier. A mere prince ignored his duty and threw a drinking party, so I scolded him a little. What exactly is the problem?”

Sylaria mocked him coolly. Arendtert ground his teeth at the sharp accuracy of her words. If he escalated things here, there was no question who would suffer for it.

If Euclid survived and returned, he would never spare Arendtert. And unfortunately for him, Euclid was a highly skilled Holy Knight.

“All you do is run your mouth!”

Arendtert forced down his anger and shoved Sylaria away. But he had no intention of ending it here.

He would never forget this humiliation. Never. His eyes narrowed dangerously.

“I’ll make you regret refusing the hand I offered!”

“Oh, how scary.”

Sylaria answered calmly. She brushed off the collar he had touched and spoke with a cold voice.

“You obey the imperial command so diligently and foolishly. I’ll be sure to report today’s events to His Majesty, Second Prince.”

“Get out!”

Arendtert hurled his wine glass at the floor. Sylaria let out a short laugh. He hadn’t even dared throw it at her. Pathetic.

A man weak to the strong and strong to the weak. To think she once, even if it was in her previous life, longed for his affection. It was humiliating.
