Chapter 151
Euclid was in hell.
People’s screams, the howls of monsters. Black and red blood bursting from all directions.
His whole body jolted with rough, ragged breaths, and the hand gripping his sword throbbed with numb pain. His mind was so hazy that he wondered how he was even still standing.
Had there ever been a time when so many Maws had opened at once. His vision grew distant as he looked up at the sky. As if mocking him while he erased the Maws with divine power, black holes opened one after another in the sky.
As if daring him to try, if he could. As if determined to see just where his limits lay.
“Huu…”
Euclid let out a turbid breath and tightened his grip on the sword. His vision was blurred because his divine power had been pushed to the extreme while eliminating the Maws. His instincts were warning him that he mustn’t use any more divine power.
Grrrrrk!
“Damn it…”
Euclid cursed under his breath as he blinked hard to focus his eyes. Monsters spilling out from newly formed mouths were already charging toward the Crown Prince’s Palace.
‘Not there.’
Euclid bit down on his lip and raised his sword. His legs staggered, but he forced himself to steady his balance and poured strength into his grip.
He mustn’t use his power. If he did, it could spiral out of control. But Euclid had no choice. He had to protect the Crown Prince’s Palace, and Sylaria who was there.
So Euclid cut down the monsters as he ran toward the Crown Prince’s Palace. Squeezing out a faint yet vivid red aura from his entire body, he let out a roar.
“U-aaah!”
Flames of divine power flared from Euclid’s body as if they would burn the monsters alive. The whites of his eyes were bloodshot red, and it felt as though every nerve in his body was being severed.
“Keugh…!”
After barely managing to defend the Crown Prince’s Palace from the monsters, bright red blood burst from Euclid’s mouth. Feeling a vicious pain as if his heart were twisting inside his chest, he clenched his jaw.
He had definitely taken painkillers strong enough to kill all sensation.
And yet he could feel pain.
Euclid mustn’t feel pain. His senses also belonged to Sylaria.
If he suffered, then that agony would be transmitted in full to Sylaria, who shared his senses. So he couldn’t be in pain. He mustn’t be.
‘No.’
With a violently trembling hand, Euclid clamped his mouth shut. More frightening than the fact that his whole body felt like it was being torn apart was the thought that Sylaria was feeling this pain as well.
He had to go to Sylaria immediately. He had to go to her, hold her, and take care of her. He had to wipe away the blood flowing from her lips. If he didn’t move now, if he didn’t hurry, he would lose her forever. That, that alone…
‘Absolutely not.’
Euclid, trembling uncontrollably, widened his eyes. He fixed his glare on the Maws that the sky was opening and closing as it created them.
And then, the next moment.
As if a blood-red sunset were spreading across the black and white sky, the entire world was dyed crimson.
* * *
The Crown Prince eliminated every Maw in the sky. When the curse of the Maws poured down from above, the Crown Prince unleashed his divine power and suppressed it in a single stroke.
When the red light of the Crown Prince spread across the sky, the people of the Empire were finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. His red divine power, which annihilated the monsters, soothed the imperial citizens who had been trembling in fear.
It was a catastrophe unprecedented in the history of the Davoud Empire, a crisis that might have led to the Empire’s collapse. Praise for the Crown Prince, who had brought everything under control at once, soared high.
Contrary to what Cressida had expected, he resolved the situation far too brilliantly.
CRASH!
“Just how the hell did he do it.”
Cressida muttered as she threw the cup aside. She had drawn a massive amount of the Emperor’s blood and siphoned off his divine power. Then she had ignored the side effects of the d**g and summoned every Maw she could.
Enough that Euclid might have died while dealing with them.
It was an amount of Maws and monsters that a single person’s divine power should never have been able to withstand. And yet, as if to show it off, he succeeded in repelling them while dyeing the world red.
She didn’t know what had driven him beyond the limits of his divine power. But whatever it was, one thing didn’t change. It had turned Cressida’s scheme into a complete defeat.
