Chapter 35
When Cressida entered the greenhouse—
A man was walking down the corridor with a blank expression. There was no one on the path ahead of him. Seeing the empty hallway, he let out a short, derisive laugh and lengthened his stride.
The First Prince is a madman.
This brief statement had spread through the imperial palace as if it were the truth. Because of that, everyone avoided him as if he were some kind of disease. That was why there wasn’t a single shadow of a person wherever he went.
All he’d done was hunt monsters diligently for the sake of the Empire.
The only ones who even treated him as human were his fellow Holy Knights and the priests of the temple. Even so, they sometimes looked at him with fear.
First Prince Euclid was the bearer of divine power that could go out of control at any moment.
He possessed a tremendous amount of divine power, even by royal standards. At first glance, it might seem like a blessing, but in reality, it was not.
To have divine power without a Purifier was a curse. A terrible one at that.
Because of it, he had suffered from relentless headaches and pain all his life.
After hunting monsters with his divine power, hearing ringing in his ears was common, and he often couldn’t sleep because of headaches that felt like his skull was splitting.
But now…
‘Just by being near her for a while, I feel this much better.’
Euclid stopped and looked down at his hand. Staring at the hand that had touched Sylaria Rainier’s soft skin, he clenched his jaw and muttered to himself.
Sylaria Rainier.
His Purifier, who he had nearly lost to Arendtert.
After completing the temple’s certification procedure, or rather, after coming into contact with Sylaria, Euclid’s pain disappeared as if it had been a lie.
The fog that had always clouded his mind from headaches cleared, he could sleep deeply at night, and even the constant aches he’d felt whenever he moved were completely gone.
And this had continued for several days now.
Just how compatible were they, for the purification effect to last so long?
Euclid curled his hand into a fist, squeezing it as if Sylaria were right there in his palm.
Meeting her was a stroke of luck he would never have again in his life. So Euclid had no intention of foolishly letting her go.
Whatever Sylaria wanted, he would give her. Whatever she wished for, he would do. As long as she would remain by his side.
Euclid pictured Sylaria’s face as he’d seen it earlier, her beautiful expression as she reunited with her younger sister. He lowered his hand, recalling her.
In truth, there was something about her actions that left him with a subtle sense of dissonance. He would need to look into that gradually from now on.
‘Looks like I have a lot to do.’
Euclid thought calmly as he strode toward the greenhouse. He was on his way at the Empress’s summons.
Being called by the Empress always managed to put him in a foul mood. But today was an exception.
Thanks to Sylaria giving her son such a satisfying hit in the back of the head, it was the Empress’s turn to be in a foul mood.
‘She’s an amazing woman.’
He smiled as he recalled Sylaria Rainier, who had taken his hand in front of the Empress and the Emperor.
Sylaria Rainier was a blessing to him. She was the other half of his soul, lost since the day he was born. She was even someone whose senses synchronized with his.
Unless he were reborn, he would never find such a person again.
So Euclid had to protect Sylaria at all costs. Her pain was his pain.
Sylaria was, in many ways, a woman of destiny for him.
With that thought, he entered the greenhouse. At that moment, Euclid’s face twisted.
“Kyaaah!”
Once again, right before his eyes, the Empress’s cruelty was on full display.
