“I hear you’ve become engaged. Congratulations. To think someone gets to become the consort of His Highness the First Prince… whoever she is, she must be tremendously fortunate. Could this be the lucky fiancée?”

“It is an honor to meet you, Madam. I am Sylaria Rainier, of the Rainier County.”

As Lacroix’s gaze fell on her, Sylaria stepped forward with graceful composure and gave her greeting. The Countess returned her words with a kind smile.

“A pleasure, Lady Rainier. I don’t believe I’ve seen you in the capital’s social scene before. Where are you from?”

“I am from Gideon.”

“From Gideon, is it? A fine place indeed. But from now on, you’ll be residing here in the capital. If you don’t mind, may I invite you to one of my tea parties? I hesitate to praise myself, but it truly is an excellent place to meet a variety of people.”

“Thank you for your consideration. If you would be so kind as to invite me, I would be glad to attend.”

Sylaria smiled politely. She could not guess the true intent behind such an unexpected invitation, but refusing it would be discourteous.

“I’m grateful you’ve accepted. I’ll be sure to send a formal invitation before long.”

With a gentle smile, Lacroix said her farewell and departed. Watching her retreat, Euclid leaned down and whispered quietly.

“Are you really going to go? Alone?”

“I have something else I need to ask of you.”

At her answer, Euclid tilted his head slightly in puzzlement. Sylaria looked up at him with a faintly mysterious smile.

It was time, at last, to set her revenge in motion.

* * *

Bang!

“Syllie!”

A booming voice rang throughout the quiet parlor. Without so much as a knock, Grizelle stormed boldly into the First Prince’s residence.

“Syllie, you’re finally awake!”

Sylaria did not lift her eyes from the book she was reading. She had finally been enjoying a moment of peace. But of all people, Grizelle had to come. Just hearing her voice was enough to sour her mood.

When Sylaria ignored her, Grizelle planted her hands on her hips and shouted.

“Syllie! Can’t you hear me?”

“I hear you just fine.”

The problem was that she heard her too well.

Suppressing her true thoughts, Sylaria closed the book. Her indifferent eyes turned to Grizelle as she spoke.

“Why are you still here, Grizelle?”

“What do you mean by that?”

“I’m asking why, now that my engagement ceremony is over, you haven’t returned to Gideon.”

At Sylaria’s pointed remark, Grizelle bit her lip. Sylaria’s cold gaze stayed fixed on her.

So that was it. She meant to quietly linger in the palace.

That would not be allowed. If she hadn’t managed to cling to Arenterte by now, then Grizelle was nothing but useless dead weight. Sylaria had no intention of letting her live in luxury in the imperial palace.

“Ah, perhaps you’ve come because you need a carriage? If that’s all, you can simply ask the head lady-in-waiting. Why trouble me? Cora, go at once and prepare—”

“Wait a moment!”

Grizelle hastily stopped Sylaria just as she was about to give the order to Cora. Taking her friend’s hand with a bright smile—despite Sylaria’s clear displeasure—she chirped.

“There’s no need to rush. Listen to me first.”

“Then speak.”

Sylaria shook off her hand coldly. Grizelle’s face twisted at her frosty attitude, but Sylaria ignored it.

It wasn’t she who was desperate right now, it was Grizelle. If the girl couldn’t even control her expression and revealed her hostility, then she might as well step off the stage entirely.

“Well? Didn’t you say you had something to say?”

“Y-Yes.”

Pressed by Sylaria’s curt tone, Grizelle gave an awkward smile. She even cleared her throat nervously before speaking.

“I heard from the ladies-in-waiting here that when a noble lady marries into the imperial palace, she often brings along a close friend or lady-in-waiting from her family household as her family lady-in-waiting.”

“And?”

You want me to make you my family lady-in-waiting?

Sylaria barely restrained the urge to laugh outright. How could she say the exact same line, word for word, as in her previous life? Her unchanging nature was almost impressive.

‘I’ll help you while you stay in the palace. Make me your family lady-in-waiting.’

“I’ll help you while you stay in the palace. Make me your family lady-in-waiting.”

Overlapping with Grizelle’s figure, Sylaria saw her from her past life once again. She gazed at her coolly. This was the so-called friend who, just as before, was seeking to use her with eyes gleaming in ambition.
