Grizelle swallowed hard. When she approached the bars, recognizing who it was, Grizelle’s face contorted.

“What are you doing here?”

“There’s something I want to ask you.”

Sylaria spoke in a calm tone. Before getting to the main point, she looked back at Cora and Marin who had accompanied her. When the maids handed the guard a money pouch, he left his post. Meanwhile, Sylaria stared at Grizelle with an intimidating atmosphere.

Grizelle scoffed at Sylaria’s attitude.

Since when had someone like her become so important that she was putting on airs? It was laughable. She was just stupid little Syllie after all. Grizelle crossed her arms and acted arrogant.

“What do you want to ask?”

“Where did the poison come from?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“The poison you were going to use on Elenia. Who did you get it from? If you testify, I’ll show you mercy.”

“Mercy?”

Grizelle glared. She gripped the bars and raised her voice.

“Who are you to show me mercy or not? Locking up an innocent person!”

“Do you feel wronged?”

“You call that something to say?”

At Grizelle’s retort, Sylaria let out a bitter laugh. She looked at her friend with cold eyes.

To step on the Empress’s tail, she needed evidence. She had come to meet Grizelle to secure testimony that the poison came from the Empress. Yet Grizelle, oblivious to the situation, was shamelessly claiming innocence.

“What did I do wrong? Giving Ellie emergency treatment? Visiting a sick friend? If you have a mouth, say it!”

“You used Ellie’s trauma to try to kill that child.”

“So did she die? Did she die!”

At Grizelle’s defiant shout, Sylaria’s eyes flashed. She clenched her fists and walked toward the cell where Grizelle was imprisoned. And she suppressed her anger with all her patience.

“If that child had died, you wouldn’t even be here. I would have killed you with my own hands on the spot.”

Grizelle flinched at the murderous aura emanating from Sylaria’s entire body.

The person before her wasn’t the ‘Syllie’ she had known all this time. The idiot Syllie who moved at Grizelle’s requests and easily cowered at a few words from her was no longer there. There was only a ruthless woman with graceful bearing.

Grizelle, bewildered by Sylaria’s change, let go of the bars. Sylaria continued, glaring at her tenaciously.

“I don’t even want to associate with you, but I’m giving you a chance thinking of our past friendship. If you don’t want to end your life here, think carefully, Grizelle.”

“I really didn’t do anything…”

“It seems the conversation is over.”

Sylaria made a disgusted expression at Grizelle’s stubborn claim. She had hoped, but it was as expected.

To insist on innocence to the end.

‘What a waste of time.’

Since she couldn’t secure Grizelle’s testimony, this incident would be handled as her independent crime. Grizelle would disappear as dew on the execution ground.

“I’m not worried. Aren will rescue me!”

“Pfft.”

At Grizelle’s delusion, Sylaria burst out laughing. She laughed until her shoulders shook, then looked at Grizelle.

“Are you serious?”

“You call that something to say? Once Aren finds out, he’ll get me out right away.”

“Do you think Aren doesn’t know you’re here? If he was going to rescue you, he would have come already. Can’t you tell from how he’s left you here all this time? He’s abandoned you.”

“That can’t be.”

“Then go ahead and keep waiting.”

Sylaria spoke with derision. Arendtert had immediately cut ties when he found out Grizelle had caused trouble. Yet she was caught up in the delusion that he would rescue her.

“I will be sure to bury your corpse in Gideon. Goodbye, Grizelle.”

Sylaria threw her final farewell to Grizelle. At her clean goodbye, Grizelle’s face turned pale as she intuited her future.

Sylaria wasn’t lying. Having watched her for many years, she could tell that she was speaking the truth now.

It was as she said. Arendtert and the Empress hadn’t shown their noses since Grizelle was locked up here. Sylaria was the only one who had come to find Grizelle.

“Aren abandoned me…?”

Grizelle’s trembling voice leaked from between her teeth. However, Sylaria only glanced at her with indifferent eyes.
