Chapter 49
* * *
That night, in the deep hours when everyone was asleep.
Ronius was alone, unable to sleep, cooling his body in the cold water.
“Phew.”
With a great surge, his body broke the water’s surface.
He shook the water from his short hair with a few sharp flicks and began wading through the current.
Beads of water slid down the firm contours of his body until the water level reached his knees.
His steps halted. His gaze drifted downward.
The dazed eyes that had been staring at the moonlit surface of the river now fell upon his own lower body. Unlike his bare torso, the soaked black uniform pants clung tightly to the outline of his lower half.
A pointless anxiety, a fear that the lewd act committed against his manhood might be discovered, kept him from removing this part of his clothing.
Perhaps because of that, the cold water was doing little to cool his ardor.
The front of his pants seemed even more prominent now than before he’d entered the water.
He’d hoped the chill would calm him down, but the current’s caress only seemed to stimulate him further.
‘If I could just free myself for a moment, I might clear my head,’ he was thinking, when—
Rustle— A small sound snapped him to attention.
His nerves went on high alert.
“Who’s there?”
“Hello.”
“You…!”
A woman cloaked in black robes stepped into the moonlight and pushed back her hood.
Moonlight cascaded over her flowing black hair.
Ronius’s lips parted soundlessly as he looked at Jeina. Maybe he’d half-expected it to be her.
He hurriedly waded out of the river, trying to act nonchalant.
“We have a tight schedule tomorrow. You should get some sleep. We can’t have the plan disrupted because of you,” he said, turning his back to her to dry off roughly. He then strategically used the clothes he’d taken off to cover himself below the waist.
Or at least, that was his intention. He wasn’t ready for this. Not yet.
So, just as he had for the past few days, he planned to seize any chance to escape from her…
“Wha—Hey!”
His body was lifted effortlessly, and in the next moment, he was slung over the woman’s shoulder.
“Have you… lost a bit of weight?”
And with him slung over her shoulder like a sack, she strode purposefully along the water’s edge.
Her shoulder was far too small to handle his large frame. Even though he’d experienced her incomprehensible strength before, feeling himself draped over such a slender shoulder was shocking all over again.
He began to struggle belatedly.
“Hey, hey! Damn it, put me down! Ugh! Hrk! It’s… it’s getting crushed there!”
“Can you not be quiet?”
Hooking one arm even tighter around his legs, Jeina gave his backside a few firm, smacking pats.
Pap! Pap! The wet pants clung to his bare skin, making the sharp impacts of her palm sting all the more.
“Eek! What the, hey!”
“You’ll wake everyone up.”
His mouth snapped shut.
Dangling from her shoulder, his feet swinging helplessly, he bit his lip.
They were quite a distance from their camp… but if…
He couldn’t bear to think about it. The shame of that moment would be beyond compare. A fully grown man—no, more than that, a knight hailed as ‘Iron-Blooded’—being treated like a misbehaving child…
Ronius shook his head weakly, his legs kicking out in a feeble protest. His e******n, already stirred by her sudden appearance, was now rubbing against her bony shoulder.
“Hueup…”
“Shouldn’t you have figured it out by now? Your place.”
Splash, splash. Her feet, submerged in the shallow water, sent ripples out.
When the river reached about halfway up her calves, Jeina stopped. The cold seeping into her to the tips of her hair sharpened her focus.
She unceremoniously dumped the man slung over her shoulder.
Splash— He landed hard on his backside in the river, water spraying in every direction.
“Oof! Ugh!”
“You gave me your body, didn’t you? Hmm? I thought we agreed that once we were above ground, we’d have even more fun. Did you forget already?”
She gave him no time to answer, no chance to recover from the plunge.
“Your place, our Roni, is right there. At your Owner’s feet.”
Her eyes curved into a smile, laced with a smoldering intensity.
She pressed her foot down firmly on his center.
“Eeok! Ugh…!”
Ronius desperately grabbed her ankle. His eyes squeezed shut then flew open as a dizzy gasp escaped him.
“Haah…!”
“So, drop that pathetic pride of yours and start shaking that a*s for me.”
Ronius immediately bristled at her words.
“Why… why are you doing this to me?”
Soaked to the bone, he still jutted his chin out, shooting her a defiant look. He was like a giant cat, fur puffed up, hissing.
